Title: Screen distortorted to the right??
Post by: electricd on August 04, 2002, 03:56:59 pm
Ok here goes...I just finished my MAME computer which will reside in my cabinet when I finish it.  Here are the specs, and following is my question:

WinXP Prof
Duron 1000 256MB
ATi Radeon VE 64MB AGP
- 640X480 60Hz

Ok here is my problem:

When I run the computer all looks fine.  I use Arcade@Home for a frontend for MAME .61.  After I launch a game, however, the picture moves to the right, and leaves a 3" black area to the left.  I can't seem to get the screen to center when playing MAME.  I have the same problem when playing GoldenTee PC on this machine.  Can anyone give me some guidance?

Thank you very much in advance.

MATCH the game resolution with your comuter's setting..if your computer is set to 640x480 then all the games should be in 640x480...simple?

I have done that, but it makes no difference.  Even if this was the problem, there would be black around all edges not just the left side.  Also, how can you match the output of MAME to 640X480?  Most games are not that resolution.

okay then use mame32 and leave it at default..also did you check your monitor setting?

maybe the size and position is changed from the monitor..

It is possible that the size and position of the monitor did change, but it goes right back as soon as I exit mame.  Mame32 and Mame are the same thing minus the GUI right?  I am using the windows command line version of mame now, which works perfectly on my GeForce 2 MX?  I just heard that the ATi cards are better, and many people recommend the VE, so there has to be a solution somewhere.  Anyone shed some light on this for me?

then its your video card maybe..i am not sure..

but ati is very good for mame..

try to use mame 32...or emuloder with command version of mame.last thing....GET another card..ATIs are very cheap these days..only like $40 for radeon 64 mb..

also uncheck aspect ratio and check hardware stretch..

keep trying..maybe you will find your way ;)

Actually after re-adjusting the monitor after playing a vertical and horizontal games separately the card seems to remember where to position itself.  All is good now, just never seen that type of thing again.  Thanks for your help snaake.

Most monitors rember this - the card never.
As you got XP, I guess your games run in 60Hz when entering DirectX-mode - your desktop will surely run in a higher rate.
So the monitor thinks you entered a new mode and is not adjusted for this until you did so.

Does any flickering appear? There are several solutions to fix this 60Hz-bug (a problem you have with any graphicscard under W2K/Xp -thanks to Microsoft)  - but you have to search for one that is suited for your card.

Take care!
