Title: A new light gun sub forum.
Post by: Titchgamer on June 23, 2017, 09:41:35 am
I would like to see a sub forum for lightgun stuff.
Currently most of the stuff gets lost in the general or raceing sections but with the ever increasing questions, wealth of info (demul shooter thread etc) and all the new games that are becoming available I think its time we get a sub forum.

So get voteing guys and help me make this a thing!

I would gladly contribute some topics/findings to a lightgun forum, it would really help weed through the clutter. Especially as much like a racing cab, desiring lightguns can dramatically change the design/software setup of your cabinet. Some of the info regarding crt lightguns is old but still entirely usable - I'd be willing to contribute info about using Wingun for instance.

Would also give a good area for my TopGunCon project that I want to finalize and share with people (using crt guncon2's in Windows xp, 7 and up using the TopGun driver, my flasher software, and a small hardware circuit.) I'd like to see that arcade IR sensor gun project and the usb2gun topics put there too, that's fascinating info for lightgun players.

It would be good to have a dedicated area. A lot of good info can get lost in other areas

Enh... there's probably a few sub-forums that could stand to be replaced/retired.

Last time around we made the mistake of pushing for this right after a bunch of restructuring instead of before it.

Lately I've been less and less motivated to spend time on the emulation stuff, so I'm not offering to moderate it this time around.

Having someone willing to moderate it as well as having FAQ threads ready to go would definitely help your cause.

Here's a thread I just posted a bunch of links in to keep track of them in case they could be moved to a gun subforum in the future: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,151489.msg1583581.html#msg1583581 (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,151489.msg1583581.html#msg1583581)

Maybe someday I'll find the motivation to write a gun info thread like the driving cab one, but since I don't keep up with changes in the emulation scene like I used to, I don't want to be obligated to keep it updated.

Well I would have no problem moderating if the admins so wished.

Ime actually an experienced mod but ime sure there would be others more qualified than me on the subject.

Yes. :)

However, when I went to set it up just now, the forum barfed an error at me. I'll need to dig into that first, which I won't be able to do until this weekend at the earliest.

What is wrong with having the Light gun forum in the Monitor/Video section, after all you need a display to point it at. That would be a perfect place and any new information about monitor usage would be incorporated.  Why have duplicate information?

Well you need a display to play any game!

I, for my part, would love to see a lightgun subforum, now it`s a big mess when searching for lightgun-related topics. It`s pretty inconvenient now to just browse. IMHO lightguns get enough attention to justify adding a lightgun subforum.

Count me in for a lightgun forum.

I'm just weighing up the options for adding lightgun support to my cab and the information isn't the easiest to find on this (or any other) forum.

Why have duplicate information?

Pi and Linux could be merged , software support and front end could be child subs under software, etc etc etc

We finally giving up on getting the Wiki working?   I could fix a ton of stuff but that'd require you trusting me enough to give me access.
