Title: Multiboot CAB to Mame Conversion
Post by: njay on April 01, 2010, 09:54:35 am
Hi All,

well since my hyperpin cab is complete i am itching for something new and i got a perfect opporunity today:

I have already a converted royal video cabinet to MAME but it uses and x-arcade and its really well not so good  the monitor is also at an angle i cannot use lightguns.

today i bought this :

I don't know the cab model but it house a 28 hantarax monitor which works good says the seller and also the control panel he built custom it will be empty but i will be using my modded x-arcade with led buttons for the new CP

what do you think ? do anyone now this type of cab ? he says its from 2004

Anyone know the resolution the hantarex 28 can take? i don't know the model until i recieve the cabinet next week

i am going to use my vga breakout cable that i used with my old hantarex soldered to the vid inputs i hope

So to the guy said to me its a Polo 2 so that is ok i guess right?

i had a hantarex 900 mtc in my last cab and still have the jamme connector with the vga breakout cable soldered to it somewhere around , think it will work on the polo 2?

You Greeks and your backwards control panels.  This should be a pretty straightforward conversion, you're not going to paint it black I hope?

greek ? im from holland lol
what do you mean about the cp ?

The Marquee looks like greek letters, and the CP is mirrored with player 2 having the stick in his right hand and buttons in the left.

well ill be damned lol it did not even see that !

isn't this a problem if you are a right handed person for player 2? does it play the same?

get rid of the sucky panel and ur xarcade stuff , rebuild the panel from scratch ( maybe with some overlaymetalplate )  and order ipac or jpac . the cab seems fine if the tech is in working condition. it looks like a eurostyle egret 29 .

Post by: njay on April 04, 2010, 05:22:50 pm
yeah the ipac is ordered

the monitor is in working condition
i will make a new cp overlay with
correct layout but for only 200 euros
with truck delivery it was a good deal

Sorry, the marquee and the reversed control panels (all Greek ones seem to be like that) threw me off. Can't you just flip the metal plate and just remove the joystick mounting plates and put them on the other side? That's what I'd do. If that is indeed a Taito cabinet, these plates should fit: http://www.starcab.net/product_info.php?cPath=219_217&products_id=829 (http://www.starcab.net/product_info.php?cPath=219_217&products_id=829)

Yeah i could try and flip it , but the guy said he made it manually or something

the IPAC is underway from ultimarc and i have stripped my x-arcade from its novagems with the ledwiz
the delivery guy should call me this afternoon to inform me about the date this week can't wait

oh yeah it seems a taito cab but the egret type of cabs have different panel setup and speakers

so i fired up the working chassins and wham the screen works i like yes let me check if my vga breakout cable works and fire my pc up ( i did the same with my hantarex mtc900) and i heard only POP buzzzzzz fried :(

i got reall pissed with yesterday and almost selled it all but luckily someone from BYOAC forums offered me to fix them for me !! sweet !

here are two more pics

Also when the chassis is fixed i am going to order an arcadevga this will be the safest option for me not to frie the chassis again :)

Yo Guys,

Question:

Will an arcade vga agp run KI2 fine?

i know have on my old arcade cab:

PIV 3,0 GHZ
2GB Memory
6600gt with soft15kz

but the polo chassis snaps when getting a higher and i don't want to risk it again see posts above
i know the 6600gt is much more powerfull , but will de arcade vga run most chd games?

Does anyone know where a "how to / beginner / noob" guide for wiring a control panel to a pc for a MAME machine. Currently setting up mame. Also what is your opinions on one using a modded xbox vs a pc.

Get yourself either an I-Pac or a A-Pac and make sure to get the wiring harness as well and you'll have no problems. You can't use the ArcadeVGA in an XBox.

The ArcadeVGA is fantastic at what it does regarding original resolutions. But to be honest everything in Mame is processor related. A graphics can certainly help matters over basic on board video, but the more powerful you go with graphics cards after that doesn't help at all really. I don't play any of the CHD games as I'm just into the classics but from what I hear some of the CHD games can't be run at full speed even on the very latest PCs. It's all about processor power with Mame, not graphics card. That's the way I understand it anyway.

To Do:

1. Order new marquee and CPO Overlay

2. Mount the speaker housings

3. Put the pc on a wooden board and mount it inside the cab

4. Order 2 USB Hubs

5. Remove Silver stickers on the whole cab

6. Think of a color plan

Did Some Test Fitting Today:

I got the cabinet placed at it's location also i test fited all the gear below to see if it would fit after i bolted it down on a nice wooden plank with a rail.

I still need some help with the arcadevga because it seems some resolutions seem al lot better then others, maybe it's mame but i used avres to get all the ini files i needed.

Here are somse pics and some vids:

Oh man, I hope all your friend's are right handed otherwise poor player 2  :laugh2:  Looks good so far and I am on the same boat as you for the resolutions for my recently converted Dynamo SFIICE to MAME running Hyperspin.  I tried running that Avres tool but all the resolutions or settings it picked made all the games load with vertical scrolling.  Not sure what it is at this point but haven't done much research on it yet.  For the most part things look fine right now but I know they could look better as I have seen a cab with the proper native resolutions set.  I'll let you know if I figure it out before you do.
