stern is still in business(sternpinball.com (http://www.sternpinball.com)) and is releasing 2-3 new pins a year. the latest one, "Lord of the Rings", is supposed to be a real nice playing game. i've yet to try it out though.

here's more info:

LOTR (http://www.sternpinball.com/LordoftheRings.htm)

and T3, one they put out a few months ago:

Having just picked up a Pinbot after 2 mame machines, I can tell you that Pinball is cool! Mame machines are great fun, but when people walk into the game room, its like "Pinball!"

Yup, I picked up a Twilight Zone about 6 months after I finished my MAME cabinet.  I would get more pins before building another MAME cabinet (though I do want to do that again someday too).

There are a few head to head pinballs.  Check out wildsnake software (www.wildsnake.com)  They did a video pinball game called Pinball Soccer based on an actual pinball game.  The thing is a blast.

Yeah I'd love to have that Joust pinball. I remember only ever seeing ONE of those ever when I was young and it didn't stick around for very long. I don't think anyone ever played it (it's no fun by yourself)

Hint... find old games you CAN afford that don't work... a dead JAMMA cab, a dead pin, etc...

Fix them.  Make them worth more.

Sell them... do this a couple of times... soon enough you'll have enough for that cab you want.

It takes a while, and it takes work, but that's how many of us get the really cool stuff over time.

I'd love to do that, and wanted to... but I'm forced to put the games in the basement, and bringing a cab down the stairs nearly put my back out last time. I had to resign myself to stop looking for more cabs..... :-(    (unless I kick the GF out, then I can put them in the living room!)
