Title: MAME 0.203 Released
Post by: Tafoid on October 31, 2018, 05:17:36 pm
MAME 0.203 (https://www.mamedev.org/?p=462)

With Hallowe’en basically over, the only thing you need to make October complete is MAME 0.203.  Newly supported titles include not just one, but two Nintendo Game & Watch classics: Donkey Kong and Green House, and the HP 9825B desktop computer.  We’ve added dozens of new versions of supported systems, including European bootlegs of Puck Man, Ms. Pac-Man, Phoenix, Pengo and Zero Time, more revisions of Street Fighter II and Super Street Fighter II, and a version of Soldier Girl Amazon made under license by Tecfri.

There are major improvements to plug-in TV games in this release, specifically systems based on the XaviX and SunPlus µ'nSP processors.  The Vii is now playable with sound, and the V.Smile can boot games.  Tiger Game.com emulation has come to the point where all but one of the games are playable.  Some long-standing issues with Tandy CoCo cartridges have been fixed.

It isn’t just home systems that have received attention this month: Namco System 22 emulation has leapt forward.  Yes, the hit box errors making it impossible to pass the helicopter (Time Crisis) and the tanks (Tokyo Wars) have finally been fixed.  On top of that, video emulation improvements make just about everything on the system look better.  In particular, rear view mirrors in the driving games now work properly.  If that isn’t enough for you, the code has been optimised, so there’s a good chance you’ll get full speed emulation on a modern PC.  There have been less dramatic improvements to video emulation in other Namco and Tecmo systems, and CPS-3 row scroll effects have been implemented.

MAME 0.203 should build out-of-the-box on macOS “Mojave” with the latest Xcode tools (provided your SDL2 framework is up-to-date), a number of lingering debugger issues have been fixed, and it’s now possible to run SDL MAME on a system with no display.  MAME’s internal file selection menus should behave better when you type the name of a file to select it.

MAME 0.203 is a huge update, touching all kinds of areas.  You can get the source and Windows binary packages from the download page (https://mamedev.org/release.html).

Is there an idiots guide to updating all of my 0.192 ROMs? I have like 400 gigs of roms/chds and I have no idea how to safely update them all. Or do I not have to? Sorry for the n00bish question but google is all over the place with this stuff; some of it is from 2003. Can I use the same MAME.INI file that I am currently using? Or does the INI change periodically across new versions?

And thank you to the MAME team as always.

I don't always update my roms but when I do, I prefer Romcenter (http://www.romcenter.com/downloadpage/) .
Use the beta version.

I'm able to play Time Crisis without issue, 100% all the time and now that the outputs for system 22 are hooked up, I can finally use the recoil function with my Namco guns.  :)
Even Time Crisis II (system 23), despite some graphical issues, works near 100%...

But I must confess it's only possible thanks to my trusty 4790k, overclocked to 4.8GHz.  ;)

Cool that you can run Time Crisis II now!!! (Too bad my rig only supports a laggy emu via pcsx2 at best  :banghead:)
How do you mean you hooked up the recoil? Don't you have aimtrak + recoil kit or something or do you go with a from game signal with the real guns?  ::)

Time Crisis has the recoil outputs hooked up since the last MAME release. If you combine Mame + Mamehooker + an output board (I.e. Pacdrive) + 1 Solid state relay + 1 Solenoid you get proper Game driven recoil.

Here are two "old" examples  ;) :

That's actually really cool! But does your setup only limit the recoil to the mame games and just the titles which the hooker can sniff?
Guess you cant have recoil in othere emulators then?

Mamehooker also allows you to run functions via key presses, so yes, you can theoretically fake recoil for other games.
