Title: Golden Tee Golf LED Marquee
Post by: neilthomas147 on May 30, 2006, 10:21:58 am
I'm hoping someone is going to be able to help me with this, I'm using a Golden Tee Golf cab for my mame setup (using GameEX as my front end) the cab has a scrolling LED marquee above the normal artwork.

The LED marquee has a RJ11 plug on the end so I'm assuming it could be plugged into a modem, but i have no way of controlling it,  which leads me to my question.  Is there any way or having it display things like the game that's being played?

If anyone could point me in the right direction, it would be a great help

Thanks

Just curious why you would be MAMEing a Golden Tee Fore cabinet.  Was it already gutted when you got it?  If not, working GT Fore cabinets still go for $1500+ on Ebay.  You could make enough money to get something else to MAME.

I didn't know how much they would be worth, & it had a dodgy power supply, and as i only paid

Actually, they've been known to be a pretty serious fire hazard due to technical interior circuitry.

You're best bet would be to just take a chainsaw to it.   really.

the only original wiring is the monitor (which has been tested) and the LED marquee, all the rest is gone, so I'm not taking a chainsaw to it anytime soon, but thanks for your advice :)

That LED sign plugged into a connector specifically for it on the Golden Tee Golf's main gameboard. Then another connector on the gameboard plugged into a modem mounted in the cabinet. From that modem then was plugged into a phone line.

The messages the sign displays are downloaded to the gameboard by the game manufacturer, www.itsgames.com

I would suggest you contact tech support at the game manufacturer for more information on this sign assembly and how to connect/program it. I believe the circuit board inside the sign has a special socketed eprom chip programmed especially for Incredible Technologies so that the sign always looks for commands from a Golden Tee golf circuit board.

Thank you for replying so quickly, what do you think my chances are of them letting me know how to do it?

Again thanks for your help

I would think it would be hard to get that to work with mame.  I would recommend a regular betabright sign with a comm1 port on it and place it where the GT LED is.

Also, PM Silver on this topic.  He knows a bit about the LED's.

I've always had good luck with the tech support dept there. You could also contact the moving message sign manufacturer too.
