After finding complete CNC cabinet kits online, I have ditched my plans to build the cabinet on my own. Also, since I will be building with my 9 year old, a kit would be a lot better (read: faster). Anyway, there are few kit makers and I would appreciate any help in choosing one that would be good for a tabletop arcade based on Raspberry Pi. One option is the basic $95 kit from Game Room Solutions. Another one that I found is the $165 Degenatron from Haruman's Customs. As this is my first build, I just need a basic kit that I can paint or maybe go with melamine and add t-moulding only. Maybe some stickers down the road. Any recommendations for one over the other? Worth paying double for the Degenatron? Is there a better alternative than these two? I just know that with kits starting at less than $100, I am not building from scratch. :-)

I haven't used either, but I see Haruman getting glowing reviews. while I see more mixed reviews for Game Room Solutions.
I would say ... you get what you pay for.

I did pull a trigger on the Game Room Solutions kit with some upgrades. Just because Haruman's kits have 4 week processing time. GRS kit was purchased today, shipped couple of hours later and it is scheduled to arrive this Friday. I will report back on the quality once I get the kit.

Well, I hope he doesn't. At worst I hope its a learning experience.
I'm the biggest supporter of Haruman's kits but I didn't want to weigh in because I have a very tilted bias. Now that he's bought the kit I'm hoping he can give a subjective review so that when the next guy comes along they'll have a little more information. That being said I think Haruman offers the best kit and he is great at support after purchase (I'm an admin of the Haurman Customs Facebook page, he answers a lot of what I consider silly questions).
We'll see if he makes a build thread.

I had to fix one of those for a friend. The CP holes didn't match the plexi. I cut him a new acrylic sheet. The kit was held together with cam locks. It was janky. That was a couple of years ago. Hopefully the kits are better now. I built a Haruman kit for another friend. It glued together. Nice and solid.

it looks like they are still using cams, even if I wasn't such a mark for Haruman I wouldn't buy a kit that used those. Glue and Screw, FTW (or mortise and tenon, or biscuit FTW!).
I've build almost every flavor of Haruman kit, we're in the middle of prototyping the gingerballs kit right now. I have a prototype kit at my house and Im putting it together and taking notes for adjustments and changes. It has a hole for a real DMD! Im going to buy a Nintendo style one from him to ship with the final version ginger kit.

technically, yes. We're after the start but before the finish :p
pardon my wavy Dremel lines near the DMD, the hole wasn't big enough (again, its a PROTOTYPE)

Guys, I know that I have not purchased the best kit out there. It was only $85 and I would spend half that on the MDF and hardware alone from the Home Depot plus my time to measure and cut. I am not expecting top notch quality and I have worked with melamine before so I know it chips easily. If the kit is half decent, it will still be better than what I can produce using a jig saw. Will post photos and hopefully do a build thread once I get the package.

I have purchased and built an Offender Haruman kit, which was great, but am now building a Gameroom Solutions kit for my niece and nephew. I bought it on eBay and it shipped fast. It wasn't packaged as well as Haruman's, but everything arrived quickly and undamaged. I chose the cheaper route this time because I wanted something that was a little more raw (plain mdf, modifiable, paintable, etc.) that I could build with my niece and nephew to teach them the entire process. I have no regrests with the game room solutions kit, especially for the price. The weecade design is not my personal favorite, but t's a cheap two player build that will be perfect for the kids.
