Title: Street Fighter Bartop now Mortal Kombat
Post by: Termin8tor on September 02, 2010, 04:30:03 pm
Hi guys,
Only discovered MAME about a month ago while looking on EBay out of curiosity really and being a big fan of Street Fighter 2 I was particularly interested in these Machines when I came across MAME a quick google later i found this site and was amazed. I thought to myself I want one and set about planning (obsessing) about how i could build one not having the room to build a full size cab i decided on a bartop and also seeing "the back to the arcade" cab was inspired. Discovering the weecade plans from the original designer was all I needed to get started. Having never even used a saw before I should of been put off but with all the advice and documentation on BYOAC I started my plan. A lot of trial and error later (I must of painted and stripped it 3 or 4 times, also having never painted anything before) I finally finished it, well 95% any way, so finishing off I would just like to thank everyone who's ever contributed to BYOAC forum for introducing me to my new hobby (obsession) and helping me get the job done. THANK YOU.

Congrats on your first completed project. It's pretty amazing that a set of Weecade controls was all it took to get you through the finish line and all the more impressive. I think I asked 153 questions before finishing mine.

Anything to do with Street Fighter always peeks my interest. Good job  and I know what you mean getting the finish right, it's always the most time consuming thing for me (must find a decent source for laminate in the UK).

Finally completed. Ive replaced the marquee with the more traditional Street Fighter one, sorted out the software and shelled windows. Here are some pics of the finished bartop.

Nice bartop, Termin8tor!!   :drool

What are the overall dimensions of your finished bartop?

Hi John, Dimensions are H=540mm W=450mm D=453mm. If I had to do it all over I would probably make it a bit wider as I didn't have a mm to spare under the cp.

The buttons I've used are Happ Competition buttons and the Joysticks are Magstik Plus from Gremlin Solutions in the UK.

After building my bartop I decided to change to a Mortal Kombat theme seeing as though I spend most of the time playing UMK3. Also included a picture of the back.

sweet little cabinet you have there.  just curious, what do you use for the 'run' button?

The run button is the strong kick (Street Fighter)

No plans unfortunately, the cab is based on Lokesen's Weecade with a little improv. The plans are available on his (excellent) website.

You're doing it wrong. What you do is build 2 cabs.

(looks good)

Great job...love the way it turned out. I've been referring to this and similar posts as I build my first cabinet under the same design. I'm trying to cram a 6 button layout on a cabinet with a 17" monitor too.

What were your dimensions? Specifically the width and control panel.
