Well it's been awhile since I've posted on this board. I planned my cabinet and one for a friend and then got lost in a pre-Christmas basement reno.
Anyway I'm back on track and it's time to share some pics as I know I've enjoyed all the progress shots I've viewed in this section.
Today I'm featuring my friend's CP which I just completed. The cab is called FLYERCADE after his favorite team of the now-defunct NHL, the Flyers.
The theme is orange and black of course, I'm using the popular Cosmic Frostbite image on both cab's.
Here is the overlay image and printout...

And here's some final result shots with controls installed and plexi/t-mold on...

:o, what program did you use (art?)
-
Man that is sooooo sweet, awesome job. Can you tell me why the button layout re the 5 buttons and particular lay out of the 5 buttons?
-
Very nice indeed, orange T-Moulding is awesome, I need to get some of that!
-
Where did you have it printed? Cost?
-
:o
That is some great looking work! Very Slick!
-
Thanks guys.
-The art was done in Photoshop.
-The button layout was based on just playing the classics, probably overkill but it has a nice look to it. I'm using 6 per side on my CP, with an extra button added to the left of the top row.
-Yes the T-molding has PUNCH...probably the best of the colors available.
-Had it printed by a friend at his work. I bought him a Jakks Pacman game as thanks so I guess it cost me about $15
-
That artwork is simply gorgeous, I wish I had half the talent to do that....
Great Work

Funny. The Devilscade would still kick that cabs butt in 7 after being down 3-0.
Nice work.
Art

wow, freakin nice! :o
-
Really sharp.
-
Wow what great compliments, good to be back on this board.
I'll pass along the Devils comment to my buddy, he'll love that.
Did a Mamewah skin around that same background image. Used the Slicker font to get that GameLauncher look. Here's a preview...

More to come...

Funny.
-
Great job.... what type joysticks are you using?
-
GG the sticks are the Omni-Stik Basic from http://groovygamegear.com/
A little more work to mount than the usual joystick but the results are worth it. I beveled the plexi around the stick and trackball holes to finish them off.
Here's a pre-overlay shot of the CP...
I set up a test panel with 4 different joysticks and everyone who's tried it has chose the Omni-Stik. The control in the Pacman games is amazing with the 4-way, the short throw makes for positive, fast turning.
We thought about going with the 4/8 way switchable style but decided the dedicated 4-way up top was best. Really happy with the control layout, everything is very comfortable to use.
-
That CP is totally sick.
-
That is awesome...
(didn't really understand the 5 button layout, though...)
-
Ahem. Seems to me the Devils were sent packing by the Flyers in last years playoffs.... ;D
Huh? What? I don't remember that..... :'(
Nice cabinet. One more chance at a season tomorrow.

Wow! That's beautiful. Superb job.
-
Thanks guys.
The 5 button layout was really just aesthetics...nothing but the classics on this machine.
Cab pics coming very soon......
-
Great Job on this. I was shocked when I saw a "Flyers" Themed Cab in here. I was even more shocked to see you are in Canada. I thought everyone hated the Flyers besides those in Philly.
Great Artwork too.
-
Well this one is almost done, just waiting on the spinner...we decided to go with the black Mame top instead.
If you've been watching my NEON MAME project then the cabinet design will look familiar.
It's scratch-built, based on a Dynamo style cab.
The orange T-mold and sideart REALLY pops on this one...

That is absolutely fantastic! Job very well done.
Were you anal enough to keep track of time and costs and advise?
-
Very slick, nice job on the whole cab.
How is the plexi on the CP held down around the edges, or is it not?
-
Thanks,
Sorry I didn't really keep track of the time/cost of this one.
The plexi is held down by the buttons and the lip of the T-mold. Works very well.
For those looking to recreate the scheme I purchased the buttons/sticks from Randy over at groovygamegear.com (http://groovygamegear.com) and the T-mold was from t-mold.com (http://t-mold.com). I highly recommend the Omni-Sticks!

Yeah, that's what I did, works great!.
Btw - Another SWEET, SWEET cab mate!

Project is completed, thanks for the interest.
Got the Vortex from Zakk yesterday, the black knob is quite sharp.
Look for a website with more pic's/detail's in the near future.
A couple of final shots...

The whole thing really looks fantastic!
You've got a great color match to the T-Mold
What did your friend print that on?
By the way.. anyone interested in the cool artwork can find the original here:

..and more great dinyctis creations here:
[EDIT] - LINK REMOVED
Hi, the author of the artwork asked that I not link to his site in any of my posts/websites.
-
I 'must' get some of that T-Moluding. It looks delicious!
-
I had the Flyercade CP at my place this weekend to add a 6th fire button to both sides and a translucent orange trackball. Thought I'd really surprise my buddy and add some LED's to the buttons. I've seen a few people light regular microswitch buttons but never an entire CP before. The results are amazing, I think...
And this trackball is just stunning. The blue translucent's are slightly marbled but this thing is a uniform color. When you look straight down it seems to go for miles...

Veeeeeeerrrry Nice! I really like the cabinets you create. Very clean lines, everything is very professionally done. I can only hope to make mine come out near as nice. I have great ideas...I just can't spell them. Kudos Sir Knieval.
-
Thanks for the mounting pics. I wasn't sure how to mount these in the upcoming translucent buttons by Shawnzilla.
-
As I said in your other thread over on the main forum, this CP just plain rocks. And the lighted buttons make it even better.
D*mmit -- you are further complicating my soon-to-be cabinet!
;)

-
Thanks guys and good luck on your cabinets.
The least I can do Mark, you saved me countless hours with all your Jakks-hacking info. :)
BTW I asked and Shawn is going to do a tutorial on his site for the LED lighting.

That is seriously sweet work man. Only one minor thing and I am so sorry I wasn't posting on these boards before I saw it printed, watch the kerning on your letters... the "L" is way to close to the "F". Cause everything else is so damn good on it... that is the only thing that jumps out. Of course I am more sensitive about this sort of stuff since that's what I do for a living, most people wont notice or care. Just thought I'd pass it along since your work seems to reflect a sense of perfectionism and going the extra mile... er uhm, kilometer in your case...
I know who I'd want to contract though if I ever need something built...

Thanks. Gotta say I never noticed it and I'm really anal about that stuff too.
I didn't mess with the text at all..just picked the font and typed. That's the way it was designed I guess.
-
It looks fine.
Look, if it really bothers you ......send it to me. I would love to be able to use that art and color scheme. ;D
-
Where do you get an orange Trackball?
-
Had lots of people ask me that question. Grabbed it off eBay some time ago, I've never seen another one.
I bought it thinking it was one of the red translucents that look orange but light up red. I was pleased to find out it really is orange.
-
This is a beautiful cab... and I'm a Penguins fan! ;D
Seriously though, great work. I've been watching this and the neon mame project with a lot of interest. I've already built a lusid style cabinet but after seeing these, I want to build a new one!
Do you have dimensions/drawings/plans of any type for the cabinet? I know it's an old dynamo in this case, but you said you built the neon cab from scratch. I was hoping you had some dimesions you wouldn't mind sharing. Anything you could provide would be helpful. Thanks!
-
Been awhile, but was hoping you could help me with a design question? Here it is....."Can I have your design?" The Neon cabinet is the stuff! I won't blame you if you tell me to get bent, but I would really like to borrow your art work? Let me know what a guy has to do to!?
