Title: Black Line cocktail from Norico
Post by: dextercf on September 27, 2011, 11:09:18 am
I have started work on a Norico cocktail labeled Black Line.
I haven't seen too many of these, only two of them online and both located in norway.

Anyway, got it real cheap under the conditions that it was untested and in bad shape.
I got a hold of a tetris JAMMA board to test if the monitor, buttons and else was working.
Fortunately, it did work. The buttons where a bit strangely arranged for the game, but that can be fixed.

Here's the picture I got from old owner via email:

The other side, showing the coindoor (Norwegian coins only! ::) )

This is a shot of what I got, before I started "looking for trouble":

Picture illustrates quite good how bad the topp-glass is:

Looking down, topp-glass removed:

I mentioned I got a Tetris JAMMA board to test the machine out.
Here's a shot from when it booted. Some minor cleaning and wiring was done, mostly on the PSU side as all other was in proper shape (greasy, but ok).

I have now started to cleaning up and restoring the cabinet.
I started with the control panels, which was first scraped using a paint remover and "japan blade" scraper then followed with a brushwheel.
When all old paint and rust was gone, it was cleaned off with rubbing alcohol and painted with Hammerite effect paint to get some of the structure back in the cp. I was debating with my self to do vinyl overlay as a friend of mine could supply this to me cheaply, but couldn't decide what design to do so I went generic black.

Heres after paint remover:

After brushwheel:

Bye the way, do anyone know where to get new buttons like these?
The holes measures about 25mm diameter, and from what I can find these seem to be Starpoint buttons. But who might supply such things?

If only I could find a dealer for new buttons, and some replacement joysticks now.  :'(

I have also removed the two panels, ordered MDF and t-mold.
Think these will get rolled with black paint and perhaps some vinyl decals of some sort.

The box below the chassis itself is also removed. I don't know how commen these are, but it looks kinda like a safe for the coin boxes. And pretty much built like one too.
This is brushed up with wirebrush and sprayed. No before pics of this, but there will be after shots.
Currently I'm out of paint.

Also, im debating my self to buy a 60-in-1 board for this one or something authentic.
I have hurd those x-in-1 is sheite, but how toilet worthy are they actually? Would the normal kid notice?
I'm also not interested in using the tetris board, as the game only use 1 button (rotate) and a 4 way joystick. And since theres four button holes allready, there might be games better suited. Of course it would be mandatory that the game could be 2 player which flipped sides, to take advantage of the cabinet itself.

Any suggestions?

forgot du add the videoclip of Tetris running on the cab, this was before any real restoration was done.
Also, the controls did not work properly and the monitor was not adjusted 100%.

Quick update to this cab.
I just recieved a ms pacman pcb (with speed hack), and are soldering a edge connector at the moment.
Aiming for using a switch PSU for this, as I have everything layed out in the cab allready.

Using these pinouts (http://www.crazykong.com/pins/Pacman.pin.txt), hope they are the correct ones for the board.

Nice work on what looks like a nice cabinet.  Are you sure about keeping those buttons, for a generic cocktail cab, does control authenticity really matter? These would look pretty good http://www.arcadegames.se/sv/produkter/kontroller-joysticks/knappar/belyst-knapp-gron.html (http://www.arcadegames.se/sv/produkter/kontroller-joysticks/knappar/belyst-knapp-gron.html) (available in more colours) if you want 'em lit up. You bring up a good point.
I don't think the choice of buttons would matter that much in the context that this is a generic cab from the get go.
I have some different style buttons allready, floating all over my house/garage/shed/car/etc.
Never thought those chrome ones where that pretty, maby I need to see one in person to apprechiate? Those white litup ones are cool tho!

First off, I need to get it working. Fix the topglass and finish off the last few parts.
