I bought and Scanned The Marquee.

I scanned it in 2 parts.  But have no idea how to put it back together in Photoshop.

If anyone else ever needs the marquee i can send you the scans.

Of course needs to be Vectorized and such.

Quick Q. What are the total dimensions of this? It looks like it's been cropped.

Same dimensions as a regular Galaga Marquee. 9" x 23"

It fits perfect on my Original Galaga Machine.

Oh sorry, I meant the scan looks like it's been cropped. Looks like you lopped off the bottom porton to get rid of that chip?

Gimp keeps insisting on using metric measurements for this particular file too. Can't figure out how to change it to use Imperial. Oh well.

9'' x 23 '' == 22.86 cm x 58.42 cm

I just used the conversion rules 1'' == 2.54 cm  :laugh2:
I'm on the planning stage

I let Google to do the math, but that wasn't really the point of my post.

Geez i know what happened.

I forgot!  The bottom part hung out of my Scanner.

So it didn't get scanned.

I didn't bother since it was mostly black anyway.

Sorry about that!

Hey" Can i just take the marquee to KINKO's or Somewhere?

And pay them to scan it?  Since they might have a bigger scanner or something?

They could, but A: that costs money. :cheers:
and B: it could be done with a smaller scanner anyways. Instead of two pieces, you'll have four or six.

It's OK to scan it in more than one piece. Whole arcade side art is scanned in multiple pieces and stitched together. As long as you have overlap and keep each scan aligned properly, the process should go smoothly.

Nice job on the scan.  I'd like to offer that marquee on my site - perhaps you'd accept a free marquee reproduction if I can get it cleaned up?  23" x 9" is the physical marquee size?

Wow!  Sure !  I would love one!  Basically im collecting all the stuff to build one of these machines.  When i get the control panel sticker.  Im gonna scan it too.  Yeah 23" x 9" is the size of the original Galaga marquee.  And this one is the same size.

Up to you. It's your time.

I would consider it important to know it's been cropped since someone trying to reproduce it might size it incorrectly. But then someone like emdkay would have far more experience than I at the matter and could chime in on the issue, if it's even an issue at all.

Your scan looks to only be missing a portion of the yellow/purple bars, so if the canvas was extended to fill 23" x 9", we should have an accurate scan.

Is it only the bottom portion that you didn't completely scan?  It looks like you're missing a little over half an inch.

I thought the same until my fiance pointed out a discrepancy between the scan and the snapshot in this thread.

Going from left->right.
A: The Pac-Man section appears to be correctly positioned on the bottom and has the upper top cut off.
B: The two halves are mis-aligned (my fiance tipped me off on this, I would never have thought to look here. Once I saw this, the rest of it started to make sense).
C: The Galaga logo appears to have the correct alignment across the top, but has the lower portion cut off.
D: There isn't enough black space beyond the Galaga logo.

E: Gimp says the resolution is set to 72pixels/in. If we assume it was actually scanned at 300 (no matter how hard I try, my scanner does 299). Then we get a measurement of 22.623" x 8.45". That jives with emdkays estimate of 1/2".

It's all fixable. Took me more time to figure out where some of Gimps tools are than it did to realign the components and color them in.

Sorry about the cruddy quality of the attached image. I just wanted to show an example of where the misalignment occured, not remove the moire pattern from a shrunk image.

BTW, BUCKETHEAD. Don't mistake my posts for being ungrateful. I'm actually quite happy you scanned this. I'd rather have a nice high quality scan that requires a bit of work because all I had was jack before.

Here are new Scans of the whole Marquee. Untouched in 4 pieces!

Hopefully these are better and usefull.

They are 300dpi PNG

You guys let me know?  If these are useable?

Sorry, emdkay my scanner isn't big enough for one piece.

Wish it was!

Thanks again for working so hard to get these into our hands.

Seriously though, don't apologize for the size of your scanner. I don't think anyone here expects your scanner to be any larger than 8.5x11 or 11x14. I don't think either of my scanners are larger than either size. It's a dream to use those monster 14"+ beasts but that's all it is, a dream  :cry: (at least for me it is).

Well it just pisses me off that this MACHINE has been around for 10 years now.

And you couldn't even find the marquee anywhere on the net.

Much less the front artwork of the machine. Which i also have now.

So i swore that if i ever got my hands on them.

I would get them out there for the fans of this machine like me.

So do you think you can do anything with these latest scans?

I snagged them but I haven't had a chance to do more than move them to a different HDD. I'm not entirely skilled with graphics tools. I can do basics like stitching images together, minor touchups, etc.

And I most certainly don't know everything that emdkay needs to create repros. I'm sure emdkay will chime in with that information though.  :cheers:

Here we go.  It's not vectorized, but it is stitched together and cleaned up pretty darn well:

As much as I hate to bump a 8y old post this is the only refrence I can find on the internet that a good scan is in existance lol. Does anybody have a copy that they can upload as I cant find this anywhere and the orginal links are long dead.
