Popeye [revision D]
ROMSet: Popeye
Unknown: Off
Copyright: Nintendo
Lives: 3
Difficulty: Easy
Bonus Life: 40000
Cabinet: Upright

Special Rules: None.

- One credit only.

- No continues! (Popeye doesn't allow them anyway)

- No MAME cheats!

- Last day is Tuesday February 2nd (11:59:59pm Pacific Daylight Time), 2010.

- High score wins.

- No savestates, savestate practices, etc. during the round.

- MAME INP recordings are optional, but encouraged!

- A screenshot is required to enter a score (press F12 to save screenshot showing your final score) or take a photo of the screen if playing on a real machine.

- If you're a MARP competitor on this title, keep in mind this is just a friendly competition amongst forum members, so maybe you shouldn't enter. However, if you're a forum member and this is a game you're good at and nobody knows about it, this is your time to shine!

Good luck!

Never played this one before...kind of fun!

Since I'm actually the first reply on this one, allow me to submit my pathetic score of 9000... :lol

Am I missing anything here?  Run, up/down, punch...that's it?  What's the punching bag near the top for...nothing?
Never mind; KLOVed it.  Hard to hit that damned thing, though; didn't realize you have to be running off the edge.

Ooh cool, I actually own the cocktail version of this game.  I'll have to fire it up tonight, and see what I can get.

Hmmmm, I used to be good at this game but after a couple of tries this is all I've got. Looks like I need some practice.

Yeah, Rev. F is alot easier with that full ladder in the center of the heart board. Don't know if any of the other boards are easier though. I can't recall ever seeing one like that back in the day though...I've only seen ones that looked like Rev D.

Heh, after posting the last post, I decided to try a couple games...first couple I messed up on, so I quit, then I had the best game I've ever had. Normally I get around 100K, but I got 138,810 ;D Was recording too, so I'm definitely sending that one in to TG...good for 4th place!

Round 10, although it shows in hexadecimal, so it was actually says R=A. I've seen other replays with that, but that's the first time I've gotten to there. I only died once on a heart levels (which is a first for me too...usually once the skulls start flying around, I screw up). One death was on the note level with Bluto guarding the stairway down and I couldn't get down to the note. The other 2 were on the pirate ship with Bluto jumping up at me while I was on the top row.

Anyone else still playing, or did I scare everyone off? It ends tomorrow night, so you still got one more full day to play.

With 11 minutes before midnight, got 100,580.  Last death was careless death on the ship round, scooting across the sliding platform & missed the timing on punching a beer bottle.  Bet I could've nabbed 2nd!

Looks like nobody topped me, so I'll be picking the next game. I haven't decided on one yet (I do have a couple ideas though, but it'll definitely be from the "classic era" ;D ) I'll try and get a new thread up tonight before I go to bed.

I got into the 80ks on Popeye, but didn't crack 90k.  Nice work.

If you need help selecting, Berzerk was almost selected last time. ;)  It's one of my recent favs, but I'm guessing I'm not too good by comparison.  I'd love to see how you guys all do....and maybe pick up some tips.   :)
