Very nice work!  GTX a bit overkill or required for pinball emulators?  What are you running, VP or Future Pinball?

I have never really been a fan of pinball but this is cool. :applaud:   But I might just have to build something like this (the wife loves pinball) one day.

Isn't there any options in those virtual pinball programs so that you could pre-render a lot of stuff? What are the absolute minimum requirements if you turn everything down/off and with a table resolution of 800x480? Any chance of running that on a dual-core Atom with GMA950, or at the most, 9400M?

Hi Yvan,

well the first problem i see already is the resolution the newer tables wont look as good with that low resolution i already tryed on my mame cab before building the mini pin cab
i dont recomend internal vga cards like the ones you described minimum for running every will ly in the 7600 geforce range better the 9800 even
visual pinball does not run well with ati cards

The thing is, I'm planning on doing a micro pinball table, with the playing field at around 7-8" widescreen, probably 800x480. At that size, I can only use a mini-ITX motherboard and can't use any external graphic card. The best video option available AFAIK in integrated graphics is the nVidia 9400M.

Ivan, I'd be curious to see what kind of performance you get out of that integrated graphics chipset.

I have an Asus m3n78-vm mobo running a phenom x2 black and it just flat won't run Future pinball worth a damn.

Mame works just fine, but I know FP relies on the 3d functions of the graphics card. I was QUITE upset by that. Fortunately, I can always stick a card with more horsepower in, but I thought surely that'd be enough to handle FP, but not so, at least as far as I can tell.

I'm guessing/hoping that it depends a lot on the resolution of your play field. If you're trying to run FP at 1920x1080, it probably requires 5.4 times as much GPU power as 800x480. The 9400M could probably be more than enough with all settings and options turned either way down or completely off.

Yeah, good point. I was wanting to run it with full effects at 1920x1200 24"dell.

But I'll complain anyway  ;)

Hi,
I have a dual core Atom mobo with GMA950(d45gclf2).Visual pinball 8.1 works fairly well with it.Older tables runs flawlessly, but new tables can be a problem. When there is only one ball on the playfield, there is no problem, but at multiball it starts to lag. Visual pinball 9.04 will NOT run on this board only in sw mode (no hw rendering).
I suggest you to get one of those ion boards (with integrated 9400M).I'm not sure how it will handle hw rendering tough.Only VP9 uses hw rendering, the older VP8 uses sw rendering, so cpu power is a must to run every table.
I now have a geforce 9500 card with intel 6300 Dualcore on Asus P5QPL-AM(micro atx mobo) in my cab, and VP9 works perfectly with all tables, it can be a 4 ball multiball - no problem.
Future pinball didn't run on the d45gclf2 at all - needs hw rendering. With my new config FP runs perfectly.

If it's not any trouble, would it be possible to test your D45GCLF2 again with a resolution of 800x480, with VP8?

Sure, just tell me which tables. I have a small 7" wide tft to test the setup.I can test it at 800x600...maybe smaller res is also possible with custom res settings.

Cute  :)

Two things. I don't know much about pinball emulators. Do they have a 'tilt' function? And if so, have you incorporated that? Also, how are you going to finish off that gap at the front?

yes you can add a nudge function to some buttons but with the uhid-g from ultimarc you can slam the cabinet and the chip will respond as a nudge in the software very cool

also the gap in the front is being worked on by a friend it will house in the near future a custom made lockdown bar :)

It's Finished :)

the latest addition was a Sharkoon Spin USB hub that i screwed to the underside of the cabinet for easy usb access for my sticks or mouse/keyboard.

This is an impressive build.  It inspires me to build one and gives me pictures for my powerpoint presentation I'll need to sell it to my wife!

Question though, what took longer, the build or the software setup?
