Not sure what that dark spot is.  Have you tried putting a magnet close to see if it does anything?  May need a manual degauss.

My D9800 has a similar bump, but it's on the side. I was able to straighten it somewhat with the geometry controls.  I got it perfectly straight, but then games looked wavy in the center of the screen.  So I readjusted with a game on the screen and finally got it to look straight with the bump minimized, but still there.

What resolution are you running at?  I run at 800x600 and it looks fine, but when it switches modes to 640x480, I get a little warping in the bottom corner on one side.

Yeah, manual degauss is with a wand.  I've never had to do that, but I've heard it can halp with issues where the built in degauss won't work.

A magnet can mess up your monitor, but degaussing it will fix it.  I don't think you can do any permanent damage.

degaussing should take care of it . be sure to run degausser along the mounting frame as it too can become magnetised.

mechanical shock can create the same symptom by warping the shadow mask - not repairable.
but, external magnets can minimize the effect , if minor  ;)

Ok thanks. I will try to get my hands on a magic degauss wand then. :)
