By the way old Bally's cabinets are little wider than WMS wide body. So 46" LCD would fit nicely inside without a need to cut the sides. Just a thought for future projects out there.

so the bottom line is that the nanotech plunger/motion sensor sucks?

how sad.  i was so excited about using them too :(.

have u tried contacting them to see what they have to say about the problems?

also, these might be of interest:
http://www.toradex.com/En/Products/Oak_USB_Sensors

USB HID input sensors ... they have one for motion (bump) and one for distance (plunger).

sounds like u have your own replacement solutions in place now , though.

as I said, if there were a better software/firmware, it would be perfect (e.g. adjustable deadzones, manual calibration with fix values, the possibility to switch off motion seperatly and so on)... but try yourself to contact nanotech, in my case there was no attempt made to provide help   :banghead:  ;D

thanks for the interesting usb-sensors-link.

1080p arcade, awesome viewing angle for shmups, I love it!

I am planning to install mame, too... playing frogger in lifesize ^^ ;)

That is awesome!  I've been trying to figure out how to use Mame with a virtual pinball setup.   Don't know why it never occurred to me to go vertical.

Awesome dude! I came across your youtube video even before seeing this topic. Made me think of a bartop setup with a 19" LCD. That would fit my budget better then your project hehe. I might just do that someday since I run out of space and vpinball in my cab is just not looking good (need hi res for pinball). I am thinking about a netbook running behind. 19" displaying the table as a secondary monitor connected to netbook and main netbook screen displaying the score board. Im not sure if netbook can do that for now though... Im sure more of those projects will begin to pop around. Good job!

Yeah, I'm under the impression that you need a fair amount of power for the pinball sims, including video chipset, so you should be able to get a laptop that will do it, but I sort of doubt a netbook will.  Haven't played with vpinball myself, so I couldn't say for sure.  I do like the bartop idea, though!

Would you have any details on the tilt mechanism you used? I noticed you mentioned tilt bobs. Did you just use a normal bob and wire it for contact?

Or use one of the accelerometers that are now available?

Does the software for the DMD save your color settings for each game, then?  That's pretty slick.

Hi Chris!!!
Simply superb dude!!!
The POTO looks incredible in your huge monitor.
Also.....Raiden IV........uhooohoooo....yes, add a controller, a few push buttons, and try some shumps....(Dangun Feveron....a masterpiece, take a look at it!!)

For my next project, I want to do something similar.

very similar to the Aussie Pin, but 2 monitors.....(is still on the works)

The controller mech:

And an artist view.

But, after seeing your projects, with these monitors.....I think that I will redo all the plans....;)

Hey Chris

That's one sweet pin you have made your self there.

I'm planning my own pin cab at the moment and I'm trying to decide how to do tilt/nudge detection.

Tilt bobs: they "only" detect whether or not the cab is being tilted/nudge right? not the magnitude of tilt/nudge.

How do you detect the tilt/nudge direction? Have you masked off different parts of the outer rings on the two tilt bobs?

Thanks in advance

hey razzer!

yes, the tilt-bobs detect wheter or not, like pressing a microswitch. but the harder you nudge the cabinet, the more detections you will receive. so you have a tilt magnitude / sensivity.

the unwanted areas of the outer ring are simply masked with tape. works great!

Hey Chris

Thanks for the quick reply.

I think I'll go with tilt bobs (Considered using the U-HID G from Ultimarc).

Would you mind listing the make and model of the solenoid you used for flipper feedback?. That would give me an idea of which specs to look for.

I assume a simple solenoid is cheaper than buying an full flipper assembly (32,5$) like the one shown below.

Once again thanks in advance.

the industry relay is cheaper than a full flipper assembly... and its easier and safer (12vdc) to install than a pinball solenoid.

--------snip---------

here is an "easy schematic ;) " to install the industry relay:

its better to use an extern 12V-DC poweradapter (I use an old solid 10amps 12V-DC poweradapter)  instead the pc-powersupply. its just safer.

there is electricity. do it only if you know what you do. I will take no responsibility for this.

here is a direct link to the relay

http://www.eibmarkt.com/cgi-bin/eibmarkt.storefront/EN/Product/NS0775599?PID=EN_NS0775599

some pics inside the cabinet...
