Layer -> Transparency -> Add Alpha Channel

Then just magic wand the corners to get them selected.

Then go Edit -> Clear, and it's transparent.

Ahhh. Thanks, I'll try it. I actually picked up GIMP yesterday, but had no idea how to approach this kind of thing.

GIMP is a great program, I think you will really start to like it the more you play with it. Here is a really good resource to get you started with it. http://gimp-savvy.com/BOOK/index.html It was written for a much older version of GIMP, but I find it quite useful regardless.

Malenko:
with photoshop you can select the corners with any selector (magic lasso, polygon lasso, etc, etc) then export transparent GIF/PNG

in the end you get the exact same results. I would have done it for ya, but Im stuck at work.  One thing to remember is JPG doesnt support transparencies and while PNG and GIF do, PNG doesnt kill the palette

I see. Never used photoshop or anything like that. Haven't had much need for this kind of thing. Just every now and then I come across something special where I have to step outside of my box to get what I'm trying for done.
