Randy I think you're on to something because windows does not recognize the wiimote as any sort of mouse. It sees it as an unknown gamepad.
I will try Hewskies info and report back once I get this working.
O and mark, yes you can use it in mame, I will post how I got it working once I do. No you do not need to even have a wii, all you need to have is a bluetooth enabled computer (I got a great usb adapter for $2.00 off amazon) a wiimote, and a set of some ir leds (sensor bar). I got a super cheap sensor bar from fry's for $3 that I wired to power from my cab pc. Then with some driver fiddling and using glovepie, you can have the wiimote doing awesome stuff in no time.
Here's the glovepie link if you're interested. http://carl.kenner.googlepages.com/glovepie_download

I am VERY interested! Plz post how you did it asap:)

And another question. Do you have to reregister the wiimote with the pc every time you want to play?
That was my big problem with the wiimote. It wouldn't stay paired with the pc. So each time I'd want to play, I'd have to go back through that whole process. And that process sometimes took a few shots to get right. So I game up.

Slayer, yes I had the box checked, but it looks like RandyT was right, Mame will not accept direct input from the wiimote. There is a workaround however, setting the wiimotes as joysticks and setting Mame to accept input from joysticks as lightgun input instead of the mouse.
Mark, I will post a guick guide once everything is working well.
DrVenture, I only pair the wiimotes when I turn the pc on. I leave them on all day with the pc and batteries are never an issue.
The whole process only takes a few seconds. I use the bluesoeil drivers, and from the bluesoeil program I double click the giant icon in the center to start a search for bluetooth devices, and then hit 1 and 2 on the wiimote simultaneously and everything is up and running. Then in glovepie it is as simple as opening and hitting run.
All in all about it's about a 20 second process, but I will admit even only having to do it once a day it is still kind of annoying.
And I'm not sure what you meant when you said the wiimote won't stay paired with the pc. Does it randomly get disconnected? Or did you just mean you have to reconnect every time you power cycle your pc?
drventure:
No, i only meant the one time. It seems to stay paired decent enough (unless I'm messing with it, in which case I'd expect it to come unpaired).
Have you tried the Blue Soleil Gameii?

You have to have the normal driver pack also, so I haven't tried it yet, but it "sounds" like it could be a pretty decent answer.
