OK, my turn to up the ante ;D 755,400, got to the dragon at the end of 6, and was just a bit short of killing him. If I'd gotten him, I think it's 100K. Here's a screenshot and wolfmame 106 INP. A few interesting things, I killed the guy on the 5th level with 1 second left (man was I sweating that one!) Had a really frustrating death on level 6, where I just fell off the platform onto the spikes...guess I was just a tad too late on the jump...almost wanted to cry on that one

Wow...so trying your method of "extra scoring"...nice :)

Now just have to string it like you said into a game hehe.  It's a whole new way of learning the levels to, so will take a bit more practice but I should be able to get to lvl 7 with 900K+ using this.

I'll see your ante and raise you 50k  >:D

I died at the end due to the stress of my wife saying dinner was ready and everyone was waiting (the excuse im running with!)...would have been 150k more for next boss :( and missed a few "scoring" opps...

Lol...ya those drive me nuts!  :banghead:

I also didn't waste time on two of the rocks on round 3 this time which while 60k usually lead to me running out of time and dying but then again the spikes took care of that anyways!  :dizzy:

It's a great game and not really that difficult.  Did you watch any of the .inps? You can get through the 1st level with 50k.

The best strat with this game is to learn each encounter, as they are consistent attacks/defenses.  For example, learn where the boulders fall..they will always fall in the same spot.  Some encounter strats:

Fire Demon

Attack him at a distance...you want to strike first and then just maintain shots...he can't get his fire past your sustained weapon.

Bats

Let the bats home in on you a bit...then move to the side to get a nice easy horizontal shot.

Fat Ogre Demons

Kneel and repeat fire to get through their shield...if they get close just jump back and attack again...

Fat Mummy Ogre flame throwers Red

These guys come out of the cave openings...kneel and start firing at them as they are coming out...keep firing they won't hit you or be able to jump.

This one's too hard for me as well... I'm just not that great I guess! lol.  Can we have a junior competition, maybe I can challenge other forums members children and MAYBE have a chance? :D

I still like playing along each week, but I think I'm outclassed here, fun trying anyway though!

I always liked this game in the arcade and the similar Magic Sword but I don't have the skills for them.  Can the USA version be finished without continues ?

Easily.  I usually finished the USA version on my first man...it's a LOT easier than the Japanese version, I think most would agree.

I was never good enough to finish Black Tiger, but could usually get to the end of level 7 on one credit, once I figured out that big diagonal jump. As far as Black Dragon, had a really good game going today, then blew it with 2 lives on level 6 (once jumping by accident and landing on the spikes, the other getting magic confused or whatever it was, and didn't have any potions left, and died...would have easily broken 800K if I hadn't.) My first 3 deaths were from time running out (it was being really stingy with the hour glasses), so I used it to take advantage of some extra scoring on the next life. Wasn't as high as my previous though, ended with about 735K.

What's strange is during my game last night I noticed no points for the red dragon? Started level 7 with the same points I ended with on 6.

Finally, it's over. Too much study involved. Ate into the fun.

You can finish this game or Black Tiger with 1 life? I can finish BT with 1 life but this game is quite a bit more challenging ;)
