Hi Score Comp #30: Black Dragon (Japanese Black Tiger) *With Prize*

Pages: << < (4/12) > >>

Epyx:

You won't increase the bar with vitality potions but you will prevent poisoning/confusion which is just as good. The armour upgrades are worth it not only for the boss battles but for the hits you can take while wearing it...once you know where the pits and jumps are you will rarely if ever get spike killed from a jump.

You revert back to the basic armour but you do get to keep your better weapon.  Ill record a game and post it within a couple of hours and show the first few levels.  The hidden objects are generally along walls where you go up/down...so if you are climbing up beside a cliff for example, the cliff likely has a bonus.

Epyx:

I'll start it off with 256200 and a recording.  This was my first game but it shows a game to round 4 and all the bonuses hidden up to that level (that i've found in Black Tiger...different ones exist in this game apparently)..I noticed one in particular that was in Black Dragon but not in Black Tiger.

Lol, I also noticed I didn't follow my own advice about waiting for weapon 3...this game is a lot tougher though so I just went with it hehe.  Oh and you gain extra vitality based on level progression.

I've never had problems with running out of keys. They're everywhere. So far to me it seems the bonus items are in the same place. Little bit different enemies, but it's minimal. Of course, the boulders are more frequent, and that's what I mainly got waxed on, but still made a decent score, considering the unfamiliarity.

I skipped upgrading armour, went for the first weapon upgrade, and was heading for the second, but bought it before that with still 800 zenny to go before getting it. I hadn't thought about saving up for the third weapon upgrade. The little I've played it, relatively, I remember needing it, and then by that time there were so much points to be had that the third one was easy to pay for.

....hey, I'm in second place.....

Make that 3rd place ;D
Anyway, I agree, the bonus items all seem to be the same to me as well. I have had trouble with keys, particularly at the start. I always buy a couple just to be safe anyway. The boulders and bats (I guess that's what they are...the ones that come out in pairs) as well as the blue blobs all seem to be more frequent, which really gets in the way of the other enemies, causing you to lose armor quicker. That, and the higher cost in the shops really makes this game alot tougher. Well, enough of that, here's my entry, for 1st place so far: 292950, including the INP, done with Wolfmame 106.

Comparing it to a game of Black Tiger with the same difficulty setting (5), I did notice a few more differences. Those guys that appear in the air on the 4th level that have to be shot 3 or 4 times (and make fire come out if you don't shoot them) appear in pairs on Black Dragon, and usually only singly in Black Tiger. A few of the hidden items are different (although the locations are the same). In Black Dragon, on the 3rd level on the tall cliff area with all the caves, the hidden item is a star (which doesn't appear to do anything). On Black Tiger, it's +3 armor. The 100K bonus item on level 4 in Black Dragon along the left cliff is only 50K in Black Tiger. The little bursts of fire that come out of the walls seem to be in more places on Black Dragon, and those yellow man-eating flowers seem to have a few more of them in Black Dragon. I haven't made it to level 5 in Black Dragon yet, so I can't compare anything past level 4.
