Brass grommet?
drventure:
Would anyone know a source for a brass grommet (or something similar to this)
but measuring 2.5" OD of the barrel (don't really care about the OD of the lip).
I've found any number of variations, but none quite the right size.
I +could+ drop my flightstick and rebore the hole, but that'll be tricky at best

Holy crap! I just realised I didn't reply to your last PM :o :-[
I'll shoot you one now.

Hey Franco
No problems
I ended up finding some grommets that +I think+ will work...
Mockett.com sells grommets for Office furniture, but the sizes are just about right
Here's a 2.5" Metal grommet (works for flight sticks, maybe some trackballs with some jiggering)
http://www.mockett.com/furniture-hardware/wire-cable-management/metal/mm4a.html
and here's some small plastic grommets that appear to work very well for standard joystick holes
http://www.mockett.com/furniture-hardware/wire-cable-management/round-plastic-grommets/og.html
They look good in black, and the lip of the grommet serves to hold the dust washer off the surface, helping to prevent telltale wear around the joystick from the dust washer sliding around all the time. For most cabs, this probably won't be an issue, but, just in case anyone does have a need for something like that...
They aren't exorbitantly expensive, but with shipping, it's a bit more than I had hoped to spend, but not too bad, about 20$ for the big brass ring and about 15$ for 5 small plastic grommets for the sticks. Basically, an expensive detail :)
I'll post pics once I get things fitted properly.

But it's the care for the details the makes the difference between an average project and a great project in my opinion.
looking forward to more pictures from your project.

By that logic, you can have an average/good project for an affordable price. BUT, if you want a great project you have to blow the budget? An extra $10-$20 here and there add up quickly. :dunno
