Will someone with an AimTrak please confirm?
Neverending Project:
Mine arrived today, and the LED bar is not working. I have tried on several different USB ports, and I know it is not working because my camcorder doesn't see any of the LEDs on.
I took a closer look at the PCB and think I found the problem. I believe the USB cable that was shipped with my LED bar has the red and white wires swapped. The red wire carried the 5V and the white doesn't. Looking at Andy's pic on his site it appears that the red wire is suppsed to be on P1 (the pin opposite the black wire).
Mine has the white in P1, and the red next (attached pic). So I think it is not getting 5V. But before I try to swap them, I wanted to confirm with someone else. Can someone check?
romshark:
Yeah, mine is red on the outside. Swapping should do the trick.
I'm guessing the white and green are data lines, so I doubt anything "fried" from reverse power. Once the wiring is fixed, you should be good to go.
Neverending Project:
Yup indeed, that did the trick. I was 98% certain, because if you look at the traces on the PCB they are all coming out of two pins on the connector. The red wire was going into a pin with no traces coming out. There is virtually no risk of frying anything, since the USB port puts out a regulated 5V. Even in the worst case (if the + and -5V were reversed) nothing bad would happen - the LEDs just wouldn't light.
But I used a push-pin to pop out the two wires and swapped them. Now I'm in business. Thanks.

Sounds like you got the metric version. :)
