Need help with my wireless router

Guys,

Any help on fixing this situation would be greatly appreciated.

I managed to set up my D-Link wireless router for my PC's at my Townhome using WEP Encryption and can connect with my notebook PC wirelessly when I type in the Key.

However, the problem is that every two minutes Windows XP will pop up a message saying that they found additional networks (Even when mine is the only one listed) and disconnects the signal until I click on my network and then click connect.

As I said, this happens every two minutes and is getting annoying to have to stop surfing and reconnect.  I've looked in the settings and options for a fix, but found nothing that solved this problem.

Is there a way to tell Windows to not look for additional networks to stop that message from popping up every two minutes and disconnecting me?

Thanks.

Anyone?  I'm at my wits end on this.  Funny thing is, when I log onto my neighbor's unencrypted signal I can surf all day and never lose the signal because Windows XP never displays the "New Network Connection Found" box.  It only does that when I'm connected to my wireless router, strange.

I looked at all the settings on the wireless router, but nothing stood out that I should change to stop it.  Maybe I should just buy a new router?

Is there a setting to have your notebook automatically connect to your network when available?

Look at the settings on your PC instead of the router.  Go to Start - Control Panel - Wireless and see what's their.  It may be specific to your wireless card, it's software, etc like PBJ said.  It's probably not on the router side.

Thanks for all the helpful suggestions, much appreciated.

I've checked and rechecked everything on my wireless setup in Windows XP and on the wireless card inside the notebook and nothing I do stops the "New Network Connection Found" box from always popping up every two minutes WHEN I'M ON MY NETWORK.

It never pops up when I'm on my neighbor's unsecured network, so that leads me to believe that it's either my router and security settings causing it or somehow my connection might be dropping out every two minutes, but I doubt it because when I use my main desktop hooked up to the router via Ethernet cable, the signal on my DSL modem doesn't drop out.

So, for now I'll just have to live with it or use my neighbor's signal lol.  BTW, can my neighbor "see" me using his signal?

Anyway, thanks again for all the help.
