How to make SPST switch to switch DPDT

I'm sure its simple and involves some kind of relay or something but its just not coming to mind.

Does anyone know how i can make a simple locking SPST switch flick a DPDT type switch

thanks :-)

Ed_McCarron:
Use the spst switch to energize a dpdt relay.

--- Code: ---

--------------- voltage source---
|                                 |
spst                             |
|                                 |
---------------dpdt coil-----------

                  ---------------------- NO 1
COM 1---------
                \ ---------------------- NC 1

                  ---------------------- NO 2
COM 2---------
                \ ---------------------- NC 2

--- End code ---

Clear as mud?

what he said. Most relays have the circuit diagram written on them too so you shouldn't go wrong. just be wary of the voltage you need to be switching and the voltage the relay needs to operate. In your case you will probably want the same...

Ed_McCarron:
Yup.  Match your coil voltage to whatever spare voltages you have floating around.  Use 12v or 5v from one of the drive connectors (yellow = 12v, red = 5v) and you'll be golden.

What is keeping you from changing out the SPST switch to a DPDT?  Seems like that would be easier.
