DIY VGA gender changer?
Ginsu Victim:
Don't Google "gender changer"
Especially the image search.

I did actually Google image search to find that picture above. It's a good job I had VGA in there too though! :D
Thanks for the advice and also the offer drventure.
Being impatient and wanting to play some xbox tonight I got a buddy of mine to pick one up for me from Maplins for £8, ouch! I actually realised afterwards that I have a VGA switch which would essentially do the same thing, doh!
For the audio the only speakers I have on my workbench are in a crappy radio cassette so I had to go VGAs RCA>RCA-3.5mm jack adapter>3.5mm F/F coupler>one of those cassette tapes with a 3.5mm jack
Anyway, the switch worked fine. At least I can take the gender changer back, knowing me though it will probably sit in a draw forever ::)

To reply to your original question, at least in part, you only need 6 wires, those that would correspond to component out signals.
For a while I had my own rigged Component-Cat5-VGA cable for my projector, using something similar to this - http://www.geocities.com/dougburbidge/vgaovercat5.html

Thanks for the info massive88. I'll keep that in mind for future reference.
