Darn, Texans played better than I thought they would in Cincinnati.

Good luck to everyone still in it.

Chad, thanks for setting this up again.

Yes.  Yes they do.

Oh well, I got into this just for the pride anyway.

I say from now on, the 3 or 4 games with the highest spreads are not eligible to pick.  More fun that way.

Hold one for the first 8 weeks, then another set the second half of the season.
I'll exercise patience when you stop exercising stupidity.

You might think that's the safe route but one upset eliminates half the field.  That has happened in the past.  Hell it happens nearly every time the Lions win.

I have been considering making it so that once there are only two left they can't pick the same game.

An interesting twist could be to have Pick Em where the game is randomly selected and everyone has to pick the winner from that game only.  Either vs. the spread or straight up.

I'm not saying that for your game or right now or this week or whatever.  Just thinking out loud and throwing it out there.  I got nothing else to do in this thread and haven't for weeks on end.   ;D

Or you could do it where once you pick a team as a winner or loser you cant pick them again - EVER.  So people cant rotate back to the Rams/Bucs/Raiders every few weeks.  Thats actually how I've seen most of these pick em contests formatted.

Heh.  Well, anyone who wants to run a different style game is more than welcome as far as I'm concerned.  It wouldn't bother me.   I wouldn't ever factor the spread in because I don't gamble and don't even really know how the spread works.

I have considered Flake's suggestion in the past.  We do a pretty good job of regulating ourselves of the super safe picks because there is no money involved.  If we ever get to a point where guys are lasting 14 weeks that way we would definitely have to adjust the rules somehow.

Week 7

New England over Tampa Bay

J_K_M_A_N

We could probably get 3-4 rounds if you could never pick the same teams again. Or maybe just take the teams you pick off the table for 2 or 3 weeks instead of just 1. So if you pick the Vikes over the Lions then you couldn't pick either of those for the next two weeks...or even 3 weeks. Just a thought. Harder to run it for Chad though.

Definitely.

I just have one thing to say about your pick, bro... please please please do better against New England than the Titans did.  Kthx.  A win is probably too much to ask but let's not go 59-0.

I hope Brady gets his other leg broke next time he remains in the game in the 3rd or 4th quarter with a 40 point + lead.

We could take it to the sublime level of idiocy and let all of us losers vote on what game the guys still in it have to pick from.

KC v. Cleveland (if they ever play) would be a good one to pick!

So why isn't it a problem that Welker and Moss were still in there?  Or the starting OL?  Or Maroney?  Is only Brady supposed to get pulled there?  Ben Watson played the whole game - better hit him with a car because the Pats played their starting TE up by 59!

Which is a bigger sin:  playing the starting QB up by 40 or playing any of your defensive starters down by 40?

I was only mentioning Brady because that is who you guys had mentioned earlier.  So take it in context, not out of it.  But to answer your question, I would have pulled my entire starting offense except for the line maybe, and then maybe some of them - especially with a lead like that.  Either way, the Pats can better sustain an injury to Moss or Welker than they can Brady.  As far as Fischers defense, you dont pull starters when your down.

Clearly the starters can't get it done - you're down 40 points.  It's time to try something else.

In the NFL you don't pull starters who are succeeding.  Manning never comes out.  Brees never comes out.  The Titans are lucky as the Pats could have put 100 on them but didn't.  The Pats are under no obligation to pull Brady when they do.  Defenders get paid too.  The NFL is not high school.

I never said he had an obligation to pull them.  I just dont think it makes any sense to just pile it on by keeping your starters in there when the game is clearly over.  Especially in those weather conditions.  I think its part of Bellicheats smugness, that frankly, I hope backfires on him someday.

And thats really all I was saying in the first place.  I know your a Buc fan but clearly, living so close to Foxboro, the Boston area love fest with Brady has finally rubbed off on you.

I find it more offensive that the Titans folded up in pregame warmups than the Patriots putting up 59 points.  They never even attempted to play a viable game in the snow.  The Cardinals did the same thing last year and I got to see it from the 8th row.  The Cardinals didn't even take pregame warmups and were down 44-0 because they didn't feel like playing in snow.  That's unprofessional and especially disappointing as a fan when you pay $400 to see a team that has no intention of competing.

So a locale being happy with their team is a love fest?  Is it a problem everywhere or just here?  I'm not so much a Brady fan as I am a fan of anyone who plays at a near perfect level.  Plus I clearly enjoy taunting people who irrationally hate the Patriots.   ;D  So many people seem to have forgotten that for 40 years the Pats were a punchline of a pro sports franchise.

Actually you are right on two points here.

1.  I do irrationally hate the Patriots.  I admit it, not ashmased to say it.  Its probably due more to the media's portrayal of them over the last decade but nonetheless I still hate them.

2.  The Brady love fest is nationwide not just local.  Apparently its spilled over into the officiating crews as well.  Did you see the personal foul roughing the passer flag for a DE's slap to Brady's face?  I almost spit out the diet pepsi I was drinking at the time all over the carpet.  Whats that now, two or three weeks of ---That which is odiferous and causeth plants to grow--- flags called for "roughing" up the NFL's prince charming?  We certainly wouldnt want Brady to get actually tackled in an NFL game.

If Manning was better looking I wonder if the officials would circle around him after every snap so as to ensure he never even gets touched.

I 100% agree with you on that.  Even Rodney Harrison called that out a couple weeks ago in a pregame show.  Brady seems to have inherited the Michael Jordan Rules.

I think only the pats and chargers have snazzy throwbacks.

Its Wayne Gretzky rules..............

As for potential rule changes, I like the idea of only being able to pick a team to win once a season, its how my GF's office pool works and its pretty easy to track on the first page. In the end, you run this (and thanks for doing so) so its ultimately up to you

Exactly. Jordan was allowed to do whatever the hell he wanted on the court. I always rooted against the Bulls in the Finals.

Gretsky was off-limits to touch - by officials and a whole bench of enforcer grunts waiting to pummel the hell out of anyone who got one past the officials.

That is typical of hockey back then.  The officials part was not.  Gretzky was the first major star of that stature, I think, that couldn't defend himself so the refs did it for him.   :-\  They sure never protected Bobby Orr!
