aaaagh I'm tired of this flyback
« on: August 28, 2009, 08:32:28 pm »

So... monitor in Revenge From Mars, flyback going fast.  Not one of the originals, this one is a WG 72xx.  I'm not all that good at narrowing down the specific model beyond that, it seems.  I ordered a replacement flyback but the thing is 25% larger than the original.  Same pinout, it appears, but doesn't fit in the spot on the board.

The flyback I just pulled has a sticker that says WG 1723201.  It also has CM-27-18 9503 on it.  Googling on those numbers isn't getting me anywhere.

The replacement that is too large looks the same but has only a sticker that says 053X064001.  I'm guessing I ended up with a flyback for a 25".

Help me find the right replacement?  Somehow this is stumping me.

A 13" or 19" chassis I presume ?

Does that deflection board have a "P819" on it somewhere ?

WG K7203

Try Googling 2ATFT1415-002  ;)

That WG 1723201 number would be a serial number.... but pretty useless actually.
That 053X0641-001 is indeed for a 25" K7200.

19", currently in a pin2k.  I don't see a P819, I see a P757-D.

Done, thanks... too bad I'll probably never have a 25" raster.  That was a quick $40 down the drain.   :P

The P757 is for a straight up 19K7200.... also used on a 13K7201 (Type 13) monitor.

Wells Gardner part number for that flyback is 053X0641-001.

Been there done that.
Bought a $75.00 flyback I ended up not needing and of course it's for a particular chassis I will most likely never need one for ever again.

Yes!  There's a sticker in the cabinet that fell off with that part number on it.  I wasn't sure where in the game it came from.  Now I know.  :)  I owe you a beer, my friend.

Found one here.

But isn't that the same part number as the flyback you got the first time around ?
(I assumed you missed one digit in your original post)

Not necessarily down the drain, I'm sure you can sell it since it hasn't been used.

Nope, didn't miss a number, just verified.  That's what the bigger one says.

 :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

So, the new one arrived today... and it's the same flyback as the first replacement.  Too large.

The two replacements are the same size and yet have two different part number stickers on them.  One of them is an identical number to the original but the part is clearly about 25% larger.

I will get some pics when I'm less pissed off.  Now I have bought two of the same incorrect replacement, the stickers clearly aren't right, aaaaaaaaaaaaaargh.

You can try happ part # 49-0812-00.  Are you sure what model monitor you have?  And just to avoid any confusion wells never made a 25" 7200 series monitor.

That's kinda what I was afraid of......... that the first one just had a typo on the new part number sticker. (missing one digit)

I think I have a couple P757-D chassis laying around I can look at.
Also have a box of new flybacks I aquired, so I'll do some comparison. (I know there's a 641 in there)

The dumb part is the sticker on the original clearly says 053X0641-001.  So it's possible it is the original that is mismarked.  I can't seem to get a clear pic of that because it's so small and faded.

Even the parts list for that P757 chassis calls for the 053X0641-001.
So something wonky is going on here.

What's the neckboard number out of curiosity ?  (Pxxx)

The original flyback is on the left... two replacements on the right.

The chassis.

I just looked at two P757-D chassis which are originally from a 13K7201, same chassis as yours though and I also checked the extra flyback I had in a box which is not new but a pull from another 757-D....... all match your original, all marked with identical stickers that clearly say 053X0641-001 by Meritron. And they are fairly smallish compared to most other flybacks.

Does the footprint of the replacement flybacks match your chassis ?
I've seen a couple new flybacks for other chassis not match the heatsink mounting screw/tab setup, but matched the the chassis pinout.

Do the pins on the fly match the holes on the chassis?  What gets in the way?

The pinout appears to match but the footprint isn't even close.  I can't get it into that spot because it would overlap the resistors around the edge of the dirt shadow.  The heat sink would be able to return to almost where it was but not quite - plus the heatsink was screwed to the original flyback where there is no threaded hole on the bigger ones.

At this point I've spent $70 on flybacks.  I'm not all that anxious to buy another.  Maybe at this point I should just buy a full working chassis.

Ah com'on now....... there can't be but a couple thousand more out there to try.  ;D

Just curious.... what's the symptoms on the old one ?
(deeming a bad flyback)

I could pull and test one of these I have here.
I have one fully working monitor, two unknown flybacks I would have to test first.

Well, that sucks.  Good news is you can likely sell those flybacks - bad news is you have to find out what monitor they go to AND find a replacement for the one you have.

seems to me you must be close to ordering our LCD retro Kit. If I have not been clear, it does the original Pin2k without ant converter boards....

(deeming a bad flyback)

Deteriorating focus, mostly.  It would start fine, then after a few minutes the focus would slowly go away.  Eventually it started happening faster and faster.  When I checked the flyback I noticed a hairline crack in the housing just above the focus knob.  The screen control was already turned up high enough that black level was grey, too, making the whole screen visible on the playfield glass.

Awesome... if you get to it in your normal course, cool, if not, I'll keep poking around.  Thanks for the offer and all the advice.

rickn, thanks for the offer, but $360 is out of my current price range, especially for a 19" LCD.
