Uh, no, you don't.  You have to like fighter jets.

And not just that (although i do love aircraft) it was a great thriller. When i saw it as a kid, i really wasn't hit with a 'Russians are bad, mkay' vibe. And watching it as an adult, it's not the most propagand(ish?) movie i've seen. In fact, the story involves Americans stealing technology from the Ruskies. Not bad for Hollywood i must say.The US and the USSR were enemies in the 80's, no?

Incidentally, the plane that would have partly inspired the book, the mig-25 Foxbat still holds the record for fastest armed military jet. Which was set over Israel when an Egyptian mig 25 detected it had missiles locked on it. The pilot hit the afterburners and hightailed it back home. Israeli intelligence confirmed later that the engines were burnt out in the process! Pilot lived to see another day though, which is the main thing...

Oh, Killing Fields! Now that was a powerful movie. I haven't seen it for ages but i bet it still holds up...

ChadTower:

I don't remember a ton of propaganda in Firefox either.  Then again, I might have been less sensitive to it, since I was used to watching ships dock in town carrying Soviet flags.  It wasn't all that unusual in Nova Scotia.  The ones we got weirded out by were Japanese because they were usually trying to find someone in a fishing town willing to sell fuel to an illegal whaler.

Watched Used Cars today.  Not what you think of as a typical 80's movie but it was released in 1980 so technically it counts.  I thought it held up well causing me to laugh out loud several times.  The commercials in particular are still hilarious.

ChadTower:

The wife insisted on watching Ferris Bueller's Day Off last night.  I never really liked that movie much as a kid.  Now, it just yells, and I mean screams, Ferris and Cameron are gay.  I mean She-Ra Princess of Power gay.  What teenage guy gets smacked in the head hard enough to send a phone across the room and responds with "you hit me" and "you intentionally hurt my feelings"?

I never really bought into the "this is for Cameron's own good" crap, too.  Ferris screwed that guy over hard and just didn't care.  Not cool.
