Midnight Run and Beverly Hills Cop (both by Martin Brest) are excellent choices in that category.

Yes, Chad, "A Christmas Story" is a classic.

Also gotta add Sergio Leone's "Once Upon a Time in America" and anything by Scorsese, the Coen Bros, and Sam Raimi. :)

The original, long version of Once Upon a Time in America.  Once it got chopped and re-arranged, it sucked.
