Just curious - MAME vs. collecting - one or both?

i have to say, i love the ability to pause, and keep my high scores forever.  with two small children, i rarely ever get through a game without having to stop to change a diaper, or get more chocamook.

ideally, i would have 3 cabinets.  one horizontal mame cabinet, with 2 u360s, and a trackball (currently have this). a vertical mame cabinet with a 4way stick and 1 or 2 buttons (and possibly a trackball for centipede), and a 3rd cabinet for lightgun games.(probably using a playstation 2 or dreamcast.

i have a pretty generic looking cabinet for my horzontal mame, i'd love to have a Donkey Kong cabinet that i could set up so it looks like a stock DK cabinet, but has mame and all the 4way 1button vertical games.

Both. My interest in MAME led to my interest in collecting (it's just the natural progression ;D). I love my dedicated cabs and my collection will continue to grow once we get our next house and I have a dedicated game room, but I could never do without my MAME cab. It'll be great hosting an arcade party when I have 1 or 2 dozen arcade games!

For me its not as much the cab as it is the setting if that makes sense. In my own home the MAME cabinet is as authentic as I need it to be...played as many of the oldies as possible with controls I am happy with.

However, going to one of the last arcades left in this city (Vancouver) still has a special feeling that even having the original cabs at home doesn't provide.

Mame is called a gateway drug
Next thing you know, it's a few of your favorite classic's and a garage full of projects

+1

It's not waxing philosophical when you're right ...  ;D
