I agree...I couldnt tell the difference of the Autobots and/or Decepticons or the junkyard scene at the end of Nightmare of Elm street 3: Dream Warriors...

Just one big walking junkyard...

when I hear people talk about how great the Transformers movies were I just hear Homer Simpson saying "Ooh... Shiny!"  :P

I agree.  I barely could tell what any of them were.   The faces were horrible looking,
there seemed to be way too many useless details on each bot,  and the rendering
was too contrasted.

--- Quote ---Just one bug mass of grey metal flying around.  Combine that with shaky camera and you can't tell what they hell is going on!

 I also agree.

Recipe: Add a 30min of weird moving dark colored blobs,  15 min of shaking / fast
camera pans,  and 1hr of Filler material,   ...and bam! .. you have digital MUD.

When you watch the cartoons, you can actually make out the bots easily.  You can
also easily tell what actions they are making.

And when you watch a decent films car driving scene... you can see the cars clear actions, make out which cars are which.

Yet the Transformer movie?  You can barely make out anything.

It also looked as if it was the same digital modeler / artists?  who made the new
StarTrek movie's  "Baddie Ship".   The ship that looked like a porcupines rear.
Very unrealistic,  complex for the sake of being complex,  ugly and purely pathetic.
Absolutely horrible designs.

And even from the preview, you can tell there just isnt that same charm the
cartoons had:  The same personality and emotional connection that came from the
original voice actors + decent  (though very unrealistic)  writing.

Robots fighting / Transforming isnt really too exciting.  It was more about
the characters various personalities that carried the toon to success.  Pull up a
youtube cartoon clip, minimize it and just listen to the episode.  Then re-start it,
turn off the sound... and watch the animation only.

I wasn't arguing about the quality of the movie itself.   I liked it, but more because of my love for home theater than the movie actually being good.  The sound and visuals are fantastic, especially in hi-def.  I don't have a problem making out who is who watching the first one, but the second was absolutely terrible.  I agree about the shaky cam BS that's prevelant in a lot of today's films, not just MB flicks, useless and takes the viewer out of the movie.

Your opinions on the bland designs are valid too, the only one I really liked was Optimus Prime.  But, I thought the CGI brought out the details, even if they were added unnecessarily, quite well.  And I thought the robots blended really well with the live action.

Optimus was the only one worth a damn.. Bumblebee would've been ok design wise. but I hated his character.  He was a cross between a drooling lap dog and Herbie the Lovebug.  Why he kept losing his voice is beyond me..  Does anyone else remember transformers in the cartoons urinating, crying or vomiting at any point?  I swear, its like the cartoon took itself more seriously and aimed at a more mature audience than the movie did.  Knowing full well that MOST people who have a fond memory of the show are well into adulthood..   Even still, the cartoon was still more "kid friendly" without the drug references, racial stereotypes, or sex and drug references..  What an EPIC FAIL...  I can't wait for Thundercats!!
