Have you considered this modification part you can buy from Randy at groovygamegear.com?

Another GroovyGameGear Innovation! Use this little "gem" to turn your IL / HAPP SUPER Joystick into a true, physically-restricted 4-way.

    * Simple installation. Included hardware allows mounting to existing holes in joystick body.
    * Precision LASER fabrication.
    * Provides longer throw 4-way operation than mechanically switchable joysticks can provide.
    * Engineered to give tight break-to-make switch operation.
    * Available as a pre-installed option on HAPP SUPER joysticks sold through GroovyGameGear or as a DIY item.

I haven't hooked up my Happ Super joystick yet but I can already feel I will have this problem so I am going to be placing an order soon for this restrictor plate and a few other goodies for my build.

You might consider trying the Happ Comp or IL Euro sticks.

Of course, the best fix is to buy Ultimarc's Ultrastik 360s (U360). Worth the price tag.

Thanks for the link. Should have definitely checked that out before I bought my controls. I should have just bitten the bullet and gotten the U360s. That will probably be the route I take once I finish out my cab. Until then, I am looking for a "quick fix" solution.

I still want 8-way control, I just don't want to be hitting down-right when I try to press right, and so forth. Maybe an octagonal restrictor may be the way to go though.

Ginsu Victim:

There are no octagonal restrictors for the Super.

Well, there goes that idea. Thanks for getting back before I went on a wild goose chase.

I wish Randy would make a slightly rounded octagonal restrictor for the super.  I love everything else about that joystick except for the slightly non-precise diagonal activation.

One thing you could possibly try... turn the little activator upside down (so it's in 4 way mode) and then wrap some good strong tape around it until you get to the activation point you want.
