Super Joystick diagonals too sensitive

First of all, just wanted to say this forum has helped me in many ways to get my cab up and running. Usually I have been able to find answers to my questions just by searching. But, I need some input for this small problem.

I have some Happ Super Joysticks in my cab and the diagonals are way too sensitive. One of the most played games on my cab is Little League Baseball for the NES. It is very annoying to get a groundball and attempt to throw to first, but the kid decides to throw home instead because the diagonal is activated instead of just the right direction. Many a beer has been spilt due to this boneheaded play. Searching the forums, I have seen that one suggestion is to bend the contact on the switch. Before take the pliers to the switch, I just wanted to know if this is a good idea and how effective it is. Also, any other ideas?

Maybe check out the joystick round-up from Retroblast and see what works best for your needs:

You might consider trying the Happ Comp or IL Euro sticks.

Of course, the best fix is to buy Ultimarc's Ultrastik 360s (U360). Worth the price tag.

I too would like to hear about a good home remedy for this problem.

It happens on my Happ Mechanical Rotaries (I think these are based off of supers)... and I don't have any other options other than to mod the stick somehow.

Basically, the joystick actuator rests right on the switches, and barely moving them in any direction is enough to engage the switch.  I tried filing down the actuator a bit, but it didn't help much.

nice reviews on that site, it looks like the happ comp's are my best fit.

i actually already have several of these from different cab's i've bought so i'll try'em out on my project.. 2 of them are like new.

one thing i noticed (without yet testing it) was taht i wish they was

a little higher
a little stiffer spring, i dont wanna fight the joystick but i like to feel some resistance.
wish it had a bit more travel, and i wish it did'nt engage as quckly..

but it appears those will be the best off the shelf sticks for my personal taste.

btw what sticks was used in the original dedicated mortal kombat cabinets? those was nice sticks.. the comps feel "close" to them, but not quite, something off.

I think they were Happ Supers. Not positive. One of our MK nuts will show up with the correct answer soon enough....
