| Are tokens tokens? |

| Dr Zero:
Are tokens tokens or are their different types within the arcade arena? I saw some on ebay from some casino and was wondering if they were usable with a machine that was set up to take tokens. Thanks! |
| Beretta:
tokens come in difference sizes you can try them to see if they'll work but probably wont unless the of very similar size and weight. |

if this is your personal cabinet that is set up for tokens, you can probably modify the coin mech so that it will work with just about anything. my coin mechs activate with tokens, quarters, nickels, steel washers, just about anything flat, thin and round between the size of a nickel and a quarter. pennies occasionally work, but often slip past the switch without activating it |

I did a Hack for the "Ultimate All in One Coin Mech". Search for it B/S/T fi you want to ahck one. |

FWIW, some tokens were grooved, and the coin insert slot modified so normal coins & (other arcade's) tokens don't fit. I'm thinking of the three grooves on one half of each side tokens; this made the tokens could fit in the slot in two orientations, and a pain if you had to get a new coin in to continue a game. Can't find any picture on-line, the places that used them are either out of business or gone to "electronic token" cards. But yeah, most tokens were 0.984", but there was a range of sizes, and of weight due to different materials. And since arcades didn't want you use use other arcade's tokens on their machines, and to use fake tokens, the coin mechs are designed to accept one size and weight. So hack the coin mech to use any size/weight as mentioned above. |
