How can I use a Mad Catz Analog Steering Wheel in MAME?

Pages: (1/2) > >>

Naloomi:

I recently picked up a Mad Catz Analog Steering Wheel (this one one for $2 from a local thrift store. It is for Nintendo 64, but I figured there has to be a way to make it work for my MAME cabinet.

I'm looking for the best way to get this to work in my MAME cabinet.

I currently have an IPAC-2 hooked up to a DB25 interface so that I can exchange Control Panels whenever. However, from what I have read, the analog wheel can not be hooked up this way due to potentiometer.

Any help would be MOST appreciated. I'm tried doing some research first, but I am actually getting more confused. Please help!

Thank you.

Would one of those N64 to USB adapters work (Adaptoid is the one that comes to mind).

Naloomi:

I was not aware of such a thing prior to you're mentioning (and link, thank you). Unfortunately, the 'ordering' page has not been updated to say that they have them to sell.

Odd. Ebay does have something similar though for $10.

I will definitely have to consider it.

Okay. The adaptoid on e-bay is going for $197.00 (the decimal point is NOT in the wrong spot). I made an offer, which was declined.

The other one on their is not an adaptoid, and the won't make the 'rumble' feature in the joystick work. I'm still unsure if I need the rumble feature though.

Thoughts?

bkenobi:

You will probably want to verify that the adaptoid will work with your controller too.  Just prior to buying a pair of PS2 -> USB adapters I found that they would not work for light guns.  I suppose it's possible there are other types of controllers that might have problems with the adapters as well.

If you are planning on spending $197 (YIKES!) make sure you know that it will even work!
