coin door mech holders?

Beretta:
i've got a coin door i wanna put back together it's missing the coin mech holder and the mech it self, i know that most of the mech's are pretty standard, but what about the holders? are they universal?

i think it's a "coin control" door, happs sells some holders but i was thinking of getting a door off ebay and stripping it down to restore this one, is that feasible? i'd like to keep this door since the cut out on the kick panel would have to be replaced for a over under coin door.

below is my coin door (stripped)

sad to say i dont have good news. Most cabinets ive bought that have been taken out of service have had their coin doors broken, have the mechanisms removed, are totally stripped, or they even just remove the entire coin door.

ive never had luck trying to restore one cause it almost always equals out or would be more expensive in price to do so, Vs just getting a new one from HAPP.

have you taken measurements on your existing door and compared it to every door in happs catalog yet? if not, try doing that first.

also you could find out who originally made your door (it should be stamped or written on their somewhere or their should be a number or something you could use to trace down the MFG.) Happ sells plenty of parts for a lot of doors, so this isnt impossible it will probably end up costing a lot more though.

no markings on it other then someone with a silver marker.. says streetf #12 at the top..

and on the bottom it says 630

i assume the vender most likely had the door on a street fighter at one time.. dunno.

anyway i see this type of door on a lot of games/cabinets of the mid to early 80's.. and those was coin controls.. so thats what makes me thinks this is a coin contorl as wel.

happ's does have some doors that look liek this..

http://www.happ.com/coindoors/40000800.htm (athough it looks like it has those clips for mounting rather then holes in the frame.

a pinball door looks almost identical http://www.happ.com/coindoors/40070700.htm
price is 65.45 + s&h

i've seen coin doors on ebay go for 20-30, less then half of a new one from happs, so my thought was to get a coin door and strip it down and move it's hardware over to this one.

so the question was are the mech holders universal? if so does buying a used door off ebay sound feasible way to restore this one.

personally i like the over under better, this one drops down some plastic tubing.. to the vault which takes up quite a lot of room.. but putting a O/U on it means replacing the entire kick panel which is more work/money and i'd still have to get the parts for a working door.

also something to consider.

Why dont you find a seemingly identical coin door on ebay and then ask the seller for the dimensions of it, compare it with your own, and also ask him if both slots are working and get him to say something along the lines of a guarantee that they are?

it would sure be a lot less effort than stripping the door you get to fix your inop one.

its worth a try.

also to mention is that you rarely if ever will find a used commercial game that has a working coin door it is actually a legal requirement to disable the coin mechanisms before arcade operators or wholesalers can sell a decommissioned game to a home user.

the industry regulators want to make absolutely sure that home users dont charge their friends to use their game. otherwise your required to apply for a vending liscence of some type, depending on the state, and you get a nice tax sticker that goes on your machine.

i just figured id share that.
