Ahh... Do it!

But just make sure you do it so you can always bring it back!

Or... Better yet...

Build your own with the dimensions of the original!

Then you can use the monitor, Glass, ect... But keep the original in tack.  Then if you get an extra monitor later, and glass...  You can have both sitting next to each other!

I say Mame the Cocktail or Gorf Cab.   I did and never regretted it.  I no longer have to fix my damn Gorf PCB EVER AGAIN.  Some of those chips are impossible to find and or fix.

If you mame it, keep it setup as gorf if possible.  This way you can always switch it back to gorf if needed.

I kinda did the same with my cabinet.   I mamed a Centipede that was converted to Sky Soldiers and kept the Sky soldiers board and electronics all in tact. I just added my computer and a 21 inch computer monitor.  The old original monitor needs a little work, so I figured I would keep it and fix it when I get time.   I can easily convert it back to Sky soldiers or Centipede, although I would need to get a Centipede board.    I've also heard of people making their cab run mame and a jamma game with a flick of a switch, maybe if you're up for that, it would be a good option?   I think the big issue with maming a classic would be if you totally tore it apart and modified the cab in a way it could never be restored to the original state.
