world cup 94 bally pinball machine ***update***
« on: July 15, 2009, 06:08:22 pm »
Hi Everyone,

This is my second purchase, my first purchase was NBA Fast Break from a guy that works on pinball machines near me called Jay Richardson Pinball and was totally re-hauled, Excellent shape.

I picked up world cup 94 for $500 (a good deal I think) from an old arcade that has been closed for a while now, The box is in good shape except for a ding in the metal holding the playfield glass and no locks (no big deal).  When I got the machine home fired it up and noticed that almost all the lights work the DMD works with no problems.  The playfield is dirty and needs to be cleaned, Playfield other than being dirty has no visible damage that I can see.
Game plays fine, except the balls eject during game play.  The left flipper is weak and the right flipper pulses sometimes.  There are some switches that say need to be checked.

As I am not really familiar with pins (but would like to get more knowledge of them), what would my best plan of action be.

What is the best why to clean the playfield and with what?  How to fix the flipper problems?
Or would it be best to take it in and get serviced.

First off, this website is your best friend: http://www.marvin3m.com/fix.htm

Secondly, you should be able to handle these repairs on your own if you just ask questions, read up at the link I provided above, and take your time. The first thing you should order is the manual for the game online so you can have the part numbers for what you'll be needing and know what to ask for when making orders.

For cleaning up the machine, I'd get some Novus 1 and Novus 2. You can order it from pretty much any pinball parts retailer. As you fix it up, you're also going to need parts, rubber, cleaning supplies, and tools. Check out these sites to find what you need (many offer parts by game):

www.pinballlife.com
www.bayareaamusements.com
www.pbresource.com
www.marcospecialties.com

Here are the game-specific parts for your game from Bay Area Amusements: http://bayareaamusements.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=GS-2811

At first glance you should start by rebuilding the flippers, check the ball trough switches (balls kicking out), and use the diagnostics to see what switches need replacing and order the appropriate ones.

That is a horrible deal. I'll help you cut your losses by taking it off your hands for $450.  ;)  ;D

Seriously, $500 for that game without major issues is a steal. Honestly you could take the pin to the local pin guy, pay to have it shopped out, and still be way below market value for that pin.

Well it has been a while.  so after looking at if I could do the repairs on my own and being as busy as I am running my own restaurant, I decided to get it shopped by the guy I bought my other pin from.  It has been over a month with him and I get it back tommarow  :applaud:.  Can't wait to see it!!!!!!

While it was getting shopped we stayed in contact on what he had done and what was needed.

He stated that the game being on location was one the best kept shapes he has seen!  No issues with PCB's.

Work done as follows:

1. New legs and bolts (gold)
2. New lock down bar
3. new side rails
4. New Dot matrix display (old one had some dim lights)
5.New soccer ball
6. New plastic set
7. Cliffy protectors
8. New glass
9.Repainted coin door
10. cleaned Playfield surface and waxed
11. cleaned out inside of box
12. Changd a couple of connectors on the boards
13. REbuild flippers

I will add photos tommarow after I recieve it back.

I always loved those stupid ass lists people create when they clean up a machine.  I don't know (nor care) if that's a pinball-only thing or not, but I had some fun with it for awhile before I realized people didn't know I was mocking them.

Things like:

1 - flipper buttons proper in and out operation checked
2 - various screws tightened
3 - tilt senor tested

Sure I did not do the stuff myself, was a little bit intimidated and did not have the time needed right now to finish it.
I thought i would list the stuff that was done on my machine and post a price that he charged me to see if I got a fair deal.

As for the web site, thanks I missed that impotrant fact. I can't beleive I missed it.
