You can actually make the jumps faster than the timer counts down.  It's definitely the way to go if you are trying for points.

As you get higher, the clock ticks faster, so it becomes less advantageous to do it. If it doesn't take alot of time to get up there to do it, you can still make points even on higher levels, just not as much. I think on level 1, you get 100 points per .4 of a clock tick. I know you can get more than 200 per clock tick. Level 2 is less than that, level 3 is even less, and after that, it's not really worth it. As far as where to do it, as long as one of Mario's feet is within the vertical blue line (holding up the top platform over Kong's head), on either side of Kong, jumping and pushing the stick at the right time should award you 100 points. To get the points without pushing the stick, you move close to Kong and basically go toe-to-toe with him on either side. It's not very easy to do though, so it's not recommended you do it that way ;D

Oh. I forgot to try the stick pushing method. I just got close and jumped, but like I said wasn't right up close to him - which, come to mind, I saw on a vid a while back and wondered about, because before then, I'd only done it bum ---smurfing--- close. Also, on level 1, doesn't the clock count slower than seconds?
