If I always chose to filter no clones, am I missing anything good?

As the title says.  I always turn on the no clones filter, is there any case where the clone is better than the parent, or if is a safe bet to always turn off the clones?

There are a few games that the parent doesn't work but the clone does.  And some people prefer a specific clone over the parent (different graphics, sounds, controls, # players, cheats, bugs, etc).

But every clone is a variation of the parent, so besides the above, you're not missing anything.

If I'm not mistaken there are a few clones that are more well known than their parents -- Pacman being one of the more obvious ones.

But, IMO, bottom line is if you filter clones and you don't notice anything missing (i.e. all your favorites are still there), it's probably not an issue...

Some games depend on where you're from. Someone could be looking for Nemesis instead Gradius. Pacman / Puckman is definitely one that will confuse the uninformed.

Ok makes sense.  I did know about the puckman/pacman relationship, but makes sense that most of the changes are going to be subtle or regional.

for me it doesnt work because i like to play all the pac variations, most of which are clones and hacks, and the same with galaga and galaxian.  the sped up versions or fast shoot are always the best.

main reason ican think of to use a clone is that some games are 4 player, and you only have a two player cabinet.

their are clones out there that are made 2 player but let you select between all 4 charachters.

Yeah, this is a good point. I love the 2 player option. I always had to make sure people were playing the right version, so I got rid of the 4/6 player option.

+1 to what has been said some clones work while their parents dont..

then there are times when the clone is preferred like was mentioned 2 player clones of 4 player games, or clones having something added, missing, or changed.
Anyone got change for a dollar?

Tons of parent games are the Japanese version of a game when there is a US version clone.  For that reason alone I would allow clones in the rom list.

In advancemenu I used a compromise and showed only clones in my romlist, but used screenshots and the ability to select clones via drop-down menu.
