LOTR MODS... Here we go again! (will have lotsa pics) *Updated 6/20/09*

Xiaou2:

I think one of the best Mods for this game would be to Change the
"Path of the Dead"  to tilt like  Williams Indiana Jones  "Path of Adventure".

I wouldnt think it would be too hard.  Just add 2 extra buttons next to the
other flipper buttons..   Pop in a motor, and wire it to a belt driven wheel on one side
of a pivoting shaft.  (belt drive to eliminate the need for a set of Stop-Switchs.  Belt can
simply just slip)

I imagine it was supposed to be this way... but Stern was too Cheap and or couldnt
get the permission to do it from Williams.

As it stands now.. the Path of The Dead is a useless waste of playfield space,
and it slows the game to a crawl as well.

Where is your LOTR HUO pin Xiaou?

Charles4400:
That would be a pretty intense mod Xiaou, adding extra buttons to the cabinet , motor and belt driven wheel with a pivot in shaft... definately no turning back from that mod... though I agree the potd is probably a weaker point in the game, I wouldn't want to change so much of the game for it...

For ths particular pin I really don't want to get too far away from factory, but will just try to change things slightly to enhance the look (will resist going crazy with the  modding the best I can). Of course that's very subjective but I'm sure I'll get your opinions when I post pics  :P

Yes the single warming filter sheet does tons to the colors of the translight, if you have this game defiantely worth it to get one.

While your at it get the pinballpals dmd glare guard filters ... they are really nice too! It dims the dmd slighly (drawback) but the clarity from not having the dmd glare is worth it imo. A bit expensive but makes ALOT of difference. I ddin't take any before and after pics of the glare guard filter (should have)... but it really does eliminate ALL dmd glare...wow great improvement!

Too cool I have a LOTR & I would love to put some mods in it, the filtering looks great with 1...keep those ideas coming.

Sorry, but I have a much better game.  Williams Indiana Jones... among a few other
pins that are much more fun to play than LOTR.

A local collector has a LOTR, and Ive played his a bunch of times.   While its one
of the better Stern pins.. . its not saying too much compared to Williams pins.

The cheap side ball drains and the horrible wait time and slowdown of the
Path of the Dead take the games fun factor way way down.

Why is that?  Are you really fearful it will lose its value by Improving the gameplay?  heh
Id be willing to bet after adding that mod,  You could re-sell it for about $1000 over
the cost of a new machine easily...  if not more.

You can always try making a dummy path out of plywood,  and rigging 2 switches
running through the front coin door as a temporary test.  If all works well, you can add
the permanent solution.   If not, or you fail in execution... simply put the original path
back, and call it a day.

 Edit:

 I will add:

 1) If Indiana Jones's path was non-moving... Id mod it to move.

 2) If you really do not want to add extra buttons, but did like the idea of a moving
pathway... you could probably place switches behind the coin door reject buttons.
(as long as you have a machine with at least 2 reject slots)

 Edit # 2

Actually, I have to look at the assembly.  Not sure if they left enough room for a tilting
assembly.
