What happened here?
« on: June 13, 2009, 08:31:54 pm »
Alright, another issue, I'm full of them!

Since I still don't have Mamewah up, I'm using Emuloader.

I am starting to look at games and play with the configurations, I also changed the video settings in Mame to optimize the arcade card, like Andy requests at his sight.

So now, most of the games work fine, but a few, like Tempest, Frogger, others have the screen shifted to the right and down, looks like a resolution issue too, but I am not sure how to change them for each game.

I'm sure this is probably an easy fix, I'm just not good enough yet!

Thanks for the help!

Eric

Firstly- congrats- your screen issues are fixed? Did you post the resolution?

OK now to the current problem. What version of Mame are you running?
1. Run mame from the command line to eliminate Emuloader
2.Try an earlier version of mame to eliminate mame specific issues. Go back to Mame 129 which I know works
3. To set specific game resolutions you need to make a specific game.ini file

I am working through some screen issues yet, but I am getting closer to the finish line!

I am using MAME 128b.

If I upgrade to 129, would it just drop into the folder, or do I have to start all over?

Is there somewhere I can look to understand game.ini's? I've heard of them, but don't know how to make them, put them or use them.

Thanks!

Eric

OK you just make a new file. Lets take frogger. Make a new text file. Save it in the same directory that mame.ini resides in and save it as frogger.ini. I just made a quick one to test it and placed the following in it.
flipx                   1
flipy                   1
Then ran mame and my screen was flipped for frogger only.

What I don't know is the specific graphic commands you need to use. I'm guessing copy the video settings out of mame.ini and play with those. I've just tried a search to find examples- I think :
resolution                640x480  (or whatever you want)

will do it
EDIT: MAME 128 is fine- no need to try higher versions

I can't really tell from the pics, but is this a horizontal arcade monitor?

If so, I suspect you are running into the Resolution change to 224x768 for all Galaxian based hardware as mentioned here:
http://www.mameworld.info/ubbthreads/showthreaded.php?Cat=&Number=151831&page=&view=&sb=5&o=&fpart=1&vc=1

This breaks my Arcade Monitor, so I end up having to use Hardware Stretch for these games...

Just ran it out of Mame, without front end, looks the same.

Ahhh.... ScottK, I think you are onto something.

Yes, the monitor is horizontal. So now I need to understand how to turn stretch off for some games and not others. I'll look at the link and then ask questions.

Thanks for the help! :applaud:

OK, read the threads.

So, scottK, you run vertical screens with hardware stretch, what is that?

Looks like I have to turn the monitor (I can't) or have two MAME's (old and new) to run the verticals. Or use the hardware stretch.

Bear with me....

Update: I got it! Figured it out, made an ini file for frogger, switches needs to be turned off. Screen is a little smaller, but a month ago I had nothing, I'll be happy with it!

Thanks.

You CAN drop it in for the most part.

In the settings make sure that the option to preserve the aspect ratio is setup correctly.  Sounds like it isn't.

Iscariot, not sure what you mean exactly or how that is done, I would love to know how, if you could tell me.

Thanks.

This is why I stick with the older MAME builds...

No Problem. When you get time fill us in on how your video issues were fixed?
