TMNT (converted to mk2) to Mame/Jukebox conversion

(1/5) > >>

Honzo:
Well, I've asked tons of questions and already started on this project, but I guess it might help some to show some pictures of the progress as I go.  I'll start off with a background.

Back in December, I picked up a junk cabinet from a putt-putt course down the street.  I've wanted to do a mame project since back in about 04 or so, but I was in 8th grade, didn't have the money, skills, resources, etc. so when I saw this, I figured it would be a great start.  After some research, it was built a TMNT cabinet but converted to mk2.

Condition/Problems:
-Marquee was punched out
-Monitor wouldn't turn on
-CP was kicked off
-Laminate was all cracked on sides

The thing was really a rag but it was the structurally strong.  After some toggling of plugging in all its connectors, I got it to boot up minus the screen.  After much searching and questioning on here (thanks!), i bought a cap and flyback kit from bob roberts.  Installed it and still no go.  After some searching, i found a zenith tv on craigslist for 25.  on a hunch, i bought it.  Amazingly, after opening it, it had the VERY SAME tube as in the monitor.  Tried swapping them and it was successful.  Now i had a fully working (except a few broken buttons) mk2 cab.  Then i started planning the mame build :).

Plans to highlight:
-Heineken Theme :)
-Car speakers and subwoofer for jukebox functionality
-4 player control panel with 22 Electric Ice RGB buttons, U-Trak Pearl RGB, and 4 Mag-stick Pluses
-Original 25" monitor to be used

I'll update this when i'm at home and with some pictures.

hey man,

if you end up maming this machine, what do you plan on doing with the harness? If it's a TMNT and in decent shape, I'd be glad to buy it off you :) Or I'd trade you for another jamma harness.

I'm restoring one now, but the jamma harness I have is pretty messy and spliced into. I'd like to keep this all original...

anyhoo, good luck! Can't wait to see some pics.

Honzo:
Didn't really have any plans for the harness.  All the buttons are soldered on though so i'll have to cut them off, but i can do so as close as possible to the buttons, then I'll post a picture of it up here and if you want it its yours :)

patchboston:
cool, look forward to seeing if its the same one!

Honzo:
sorry, i've been out of town but i should be able to put pics up tonight
after looking at it though, it think it's been modified for mk2 :( not sure though, so you can verify that when i post pictures
