Please help me clean these GALAGA 88' files
« on: May 06, 2009, 11:47:18 am »
OK so i came across http://www.appolo.com/collection/galaga88/galaga88.htm this website, and they restored a "GALAGA '88" cabinet, but unfortunately did not contact me back about the art files which they posted if you need them to contact them.

Edit: I was able to get in touch with appolo through ebay, and told me that 3 of his computers have crashed since then and he no longer has any of  the files.

So with that being said, recently I finally acquired my Galaga 88' ! cabinet for my restoration project. I already stripped my control panel to the bare metal and would love it if some one can clean up the CPO for this game.

I couldn't find the art file on localarcade, joymonkey etc. If you happen to own a NOS one please let me know if you would be willing to sell it to me. other wise I have acquired a NOS piece that was on loan which was scanned in at 400 dpi that I had stitched.. but now I really need it done my control panel is ready for it!

Download link for the raw / stitched scan of the galaga 88' CPO: http://www.sendspace.com/file/ohlisk (Please let me know if the download link does not work)

You sure are impatient one day and allready a repost ;) K I ran it through selective colors and remade the layers. This is a rough draft. Just needs some tracing time.

*image is just a preview
I have the full 300mb PDF

And you know what while we are on this topic, unfortinately I only have 1x piece of NOS side art. But I did scan that in also at 400dpi.. as far as art goes there really isn't much for this game no bezel or instrcution cards.

Here is a link to the stitched side art: http://www.sendspace.com/file/lj14lf

I guess if you do the side art and save the layer for the background stars the marquee could also be done easily.

Link to Marquee: http://www.sendspace.com/file/24adlq

(mines some what faded)

Yeah hopefully someone enjoy's cleaning up artwork and also wants to share it with the rest of the community which is why I posted all of the raw files publicly. I might end up just purchasing a NOS piece but it would be nice for this to be available to everyone.

Hey there, just got some time to make a post. Yeah I got about 1/4 into it and have been working on smoothing and filling all of the layers as close to the original as possible. I have actually made some headway, but most of the layer masks are being hand painted, and the result is a long time. I'm not really that amazing at illustrator, so I am waiting until I get all of the layers cleaned up, dust and speckles removed, I'll throw it in there for some live tracing. If anyone wants to take the cleaned up files to finish the tracing, that would be awesome, but I will not in any way be able to finish this overnight. I'll try and get some more time to do some progress shots soon.

"THANK YOU SO MUCH!" - Tom Petty

BASS! I can't express to you how much I really apreciate the effort, again thanks dude! I understand you cant produce the art "overnight". I'm just eager because my panel is ready for it. Actually someone on KLOV just posted today that they found a NOS 1x piece of Galaga '88 side art in a NOS Bulk purchase, so that would complete my set. I'm crossing my fingers that i'll be able to obtain it. If I do or don't get  the NOS CPO it's still nice to know that these files will be available to everyone once completed for other future projects.

*Edit*, I now have the NOS side art "set"!!  However once this CPO artwork is finalized, i'd still love to also see the sideart completed as well.

K got some more work done on it. You will have to load it in photoshop to see the top blue layer that cleans up all of the specks. It does end up hiding all of the paint streaks (which I am still working on painting out)

certainly not a waste of time.. people are going to utilize the files and I'm not sure what mine will look like once applied who knows I might botch it. Regardless I still want this project to get finished.

Wow that was a waste of time.

Consider it an investment. There is only a finite source of NOS components.

BASS, if you can provide a link or email them to me or something, I can finish up and send them to JoyMonkey, Sir Woogir and Mr. Do.  I think it was kinda crappy how he bought the NOS anyway, but I appreiciate the effort.  Thats why I asked if he wanted someone to do this for free, cause it was going to be a lot of work.

If it's any consolation, I would certainly undertake a Galaga '88 restoration if these files were available and I am sure the rest of this community appreciates your efforts.

I appreciate your efforts, and ya, I think the "I would like this project to go forward." was kinda of a nervy thing to post, especially when all you've contributed is posting impatient requests on a message board.

If any one needs it, I have an NOS Ms. Pac-man CPO and an NOS Galaga CPO I can scan if anyone needs those files for a future restoration project. Consider it my contribution.

Good job guys for your willingness to help this guy out despite him not needing the files afterall.

I just didn't want to spend this time if no one was interested, if you are lets do this. I will dump some more time in if you need. Tell me what your thinkin sean, you wanna just trace it from here, or you want me to clean it a bit more?

Holycrap Bass, thats a lot of work man.  You have done a ton already and there is still a long way to go.  I like how you layer yours, I trace and fill mine, but either way, this is going to be a job.

Think we should do the sideart and marquee too?  I mean, how many people actually play this game?

Thanks man, I still work on this stuff like my sign shop days, one layer for every element. Meh who cares if anyone needs it, I've wasted like 5 hours allready on it, might as well finish it up. If we could get a high dpi scan of the sideart that looks easy.

Again here is the side art that I scanned in a 400dpi:

http://www.sendspace.com/file/lj14lf

Also the marquee scan: http://www.sendspace.com/file/24adlq

that completes the artwork for this game.

It didn't really die, I don't think. I think most everyone got what they wanted/needed out of that. Are you having trouble downloading the files already worked on? Seems the links are no longer valid.

Ill dig em out of my backup soon for ya. I have a couple that I blew up to trace that you may want. I have a version that I removed all of the damaged bits without enhancing the color.

Ps this isn't dead, they guy who needed the files just ended up buying a nos overlay. I'll pass off the files, but due to the large size they may not be around for ever.

I'm not sure if the artwork ever got completed for this, since I've posted this thread I have gotten various PM's asking to repost the artwork, so once again here is another link:

If someone has a dedicated server please host it, or if someone ever finished cleaning the files.

Still working on the sideart as promised. I am at the point of the halftone in the letters. Very time consuming.

Halftones are the printer's job. Halftones were never in source artwork; they were produced during the printing process.

Did anyone complete the Galaga 88 Artwork, I'm at the point where I have to get this machine out, and I hate to have to print up the lack luster graphics, when things were looking so promising.  Mine was burnt in a fire, I've repainted the cabinet, replaced the t-molding, buttons, Marquee light just need artwork now.

Hey guys and gals.  My computer got a virus last year and I lost all my files I had stored.  I've been working hard to recover all those file among the 1000's of DVD and Mozy.

Another member just emailed me today and asked about it.

I appologize for promising to do this one and not doing it.  I have PMed Mr.Clean and as soon as he sends me the 400 dpi copy, I will get started on it.

If I can get this by tomorrow, I should have it done by Sunday night the latest.  I will upload it over at vectorlib after it done.

Thanks Mr.Clean.  I just downloaded them and will get started ASAP.  Should be done by Friday the latest.  I'll post the CPO for download from mediafire.

Thanks,

I'll be sure to post pics when it's completed too.

Bumping this thread as I'm about to begin a restoration project on a Galaga 88 cab. Would love to get some of these files to begin my project with. Thanks!

I don't think anyone ever completed it, I finally gave up and printed a generic marquee, no sideart and the original/ partially burnt cpo  maybe it can get done now, I'll see if I have any files around

I'd like to get whatever CP / marquee / sideart files there were also, if you still have them.
