what about star castle anyone know anything about it i got one for free and the screen works and the board works i think the red light is on but the power supply which i think has a short in it keeps blowing a fuse. it is a cp 573 and i was wondering what to do? can't keep the fuse from blowing.

What red light are you talking about ?
(on the board, on the monitor?)

How is it you know the board and the monitor work?

Just trying to get a little history before digging into troubleshooting.

there is a light on the pcb board. the monitor tube filliments are lite. the fuse on the cp 573 is loose and it is the orange wire not the yellow one.

the power supply is made by condor inc. dc power supplies.  i think some wires are missing because on c4 and c5 look like they use to have wires in them. and t100 for 100vac looks the same.. the fuses i am talking about to is cb1 (broke going to soder back together) and cb2, no clue on where to get a diagram for it to see if it is mising wires. if someone has a pic of the cp 573 i would appriciate it. thank you!!!

So, are you going to be using this as a restoration thread? Or just looking for some troubleshooting on the machine? Pics?

"the power supply is dead" means so many things.  Did you take readings at the transformer.  Those transformers almost never die.

Do you have a multimeter of some sort? If you plan on getting anywhere with this bad boy, you're gonna need to be able to read some voltages.

Check for fuses and the fuse holders first.

Does the marquee or coin door light up?

and the light on the pcb board is out now.

According to the manual it should be out after the start up sequence.

Does the LED do anything as soon as you turn the power on?
Have you checked the +5 volts according to the manual?

There appears to be several voltages that specifically need checked.
+5v DC
+25v DC
-25v DC
6.3v AC
etc.

The voltages can still be good but there will be AC riding all over those lines.  Same as with the Atari Big Blues... the games will still work but it's putting way more wear on the boards than necessary and shortening whatever life is left.  That's pretty much the situation he's in right now, yes?  Good voltages but boards not working?

The power supply filter caps don't burn open, they short dead and stop filtering anything.

Plus he didn't specify if those readings are at the boards or straight off the transformer.

i did check the board and i am getting some readings but not very high.. what do i do if the monter filers are dead.. i can't find another power supply anywhere.. pluse there are black boxes mounted to the side of the cabinet that get really hot are they suppose to get that hot?

The filter caps are dead.  Filter electrolytics only last 7-8 years and those suckers are nearly 30 years old.  If you want the game to be reliable in the future they need to be replaced.  You don't do that by replacing the board, you do it by replacing those caps.

No idea on the other question as "black box" provides as little info as is possible.

EDIT:  maybe he means heat sinks?

EDIT2:  from chat:  turns out he is talking about the HV transistor heat sinks on the monitor chassis - not the cabinet.  Yes, heat sinks get hot.   :)
