Out Run in mame with optical wheel = wheel drifts(having over-steer to one side)
(1/3) > >>

Hey all!

I've connected the wheel(optical) on my machine to the PC with an opti-pac.
Everything seems fine the first couple of seconds, but then the steering suddenly
seems to drift in one direction...for example making me have to move the wheel all
the way to the rigth just to go straight. Which make it very difficult to get trhough the
turns :)

The opti-pac is seen as a mouse, and will move the pointer on the screen in windows.
The problem is the same if there's a real mouse in the PS/2 or not.

I also have other games(SCI, Chase HQ and Pole Position) on the machine, but with the
same problem.

I've spent SOOO much time on this machine, so I REALLY hope someone can help

I'm SO close now, but problems like these keeps popping up  :dunno

Thanks for reading!!

Go into the tab menu then Player controls. scroll down to the dial and paddle settings (since these are usually optical), and set all of the Dec and Inc settings you see to none (select, then hit esc). These are used to simulate optical movement if you are using a joystick, and they will interfere with the optical inputs. Mine usually dove to the left. This should fix games like pole position.

You may never really be happy with games like Outrun. It used a 270 analog wheel, not a 360 optical. You can steer it with an optical wheel, but it won't feel right. Search for 360 or 270 wheels, there have been quite a few threads about it.

Hey Paul!

Thanks for the advice......but it didn't work :(

The problem is exactly the same as before. Maybe I should just get the fire axe
and get my life back!

Thanks again!

I used my spinner and have pretty high settings. It's workable. Believe it or not, but a guy in a forum comp I'm frequently part of played the game through with a game pad. Anyways, this game is an easy(ier) one in that, while cheaper PC wheels may not have the precision needed, they're 270.
AE35:
My problem is that I have to hold the wheel 100% to one side just to go straight after some time.
If the wheel is centered, then the car in the game go to the side.

This is on a SCI arcade machine, with the wheel that came with it. (and mame)

Thanks! :)

Nicholas

EDIT: It seems to do the same on the windows desktop when just moving the
mouse pointer left and right with the wheel. I doesn't return to the same spot
everytime, and the more times I turn the wheel the further the arrow differs from
the first position when the wheel is centered...
