SERIOUS ipac4 problem. PLEASE HELP!!!

Here's what I would do.  Take a spare micro-switch button and put two long wires on the end of the micro-switch.  Make sure the ground it on ground and the other wire is on "NO" which is the closest to the ground.

Disconnect everything from the ipac.  Then take that button and test EVERY input on the iPac, one at a time.  Make sure you don't connect them while the unit is on.  So connect the two wires while it's off, then turn it on and try it.  Rinse and repeat.

As for the player 3 & 4 buttons not working, that's normal.  That is the default for MAME.  Only buttons 1, 2 & 3 are assigned.  The rest you have to program yourself using the WiniPac utility and then in the tab menu in MAME.

Hate to bump an old thread, but I have an IPAC4 that I bought a long time ago for a project that took forever to get to the programing stage.  I am also having the double issue.  Was there a resolution to this? I found it via search.

For example:
p2-sw5 is the same key as p3-up (I)
p2-sw6 is the same key as p3-down (K)
p2-sw7 is the same key as p3-left (J)
p2-sw8 is the same key as p3-right (L)

Does the IPAC need to be reflashed?

It does not matter if it was bought from us or not, its still our product and we would support it. The OP has been in email contact.

That's how the encoder (and the MAME default settings) is set by default. I can't think of any 3 or 4 player games that use more than 3, maybe 4 buttons per player, so there normally shouldn't be any conflict.

If you don't want this (i.e. to keep player 2 from intentionally hitting buttons to mess with player 3), use the software from the Ultimarc website to change the buttons to something else. Don't forget to change MAME to the same buttons (changing buttons in input (general) will change the buttons for pretty much all games).

we had similar problems when setting up our 4player ipac in the cabinet at work..the default config was really weird and we had input conflicts, we had to reprogram the ipac and then make mame match it
