Advise on building a monitor mount

Hello,
  I'm building a cabinet based off of the Ultimate Arcade II plans, and I'm putting a WG 9800 monitor in it.  Of course I started the finish before I built the mounts for the monitor.  Since the thing weighs 90+ lbs, I don't trust  using MDF for the mounts, so I'm just using a 2x4.  Since I do not want to add more screws through the side of the cab, I ripped a 27" piece of the 2x4 at 2 1/4" to raise the monitor to the center of the opening.  I'll  attach both ends to sections of a 2x4 running the remaining depth of the monitor shelf with 3" wood screws pre-drilled and countersunk to help keep it from splitting.  This will be attached to the monitor shelf with 1 1/4" screws countersunk up through the bottom of the shelf.

  On the monitor there are two metal rails that support the electronics with a section about a 4" long before it angles up under the tube.  I was thinking about gluing pieces of wood under them to add support.

Then there is the top rail.  Since I do not want to connect it to the sides of the cabinet, I was thinking of connecting it to the bottom piece with a 1" thick piece of wood on each side just to hold it in place.  Then connect it to the boards running the length of the monitor shelf with a thicker piece of lumber as close to a 45 degree angle as I can get to support it and support the weight it may have since the shelf is at a slight angle.  Everything held in place with liquid nails too.

So I wanted to get the opinions of the more experienced to see if this sounds like a decent plan, not enough, or overkill and I should leave out a piece or two.

For my project I glued mdf blocks to the side of my cab and have my monitor, which I created mount for, sits on it.



Unfortunately I don't have any good pics showing my setup but I can tell you the strength is fine (no screws or nails:D).

So I'll chalk up my plans as overkill.  I'll keep the bottom setup since it's already built.  So I'll ditch the idea of a support piece down to the base and for the top I'll glue scrap pieces to the side panel and screw the board for the top mount to it.   I have tons of screws left from rebuilding the house so I may as well use them.

I will be doing the same build.  I do not yet have the monitor so it may be a duh once I have it.  Can you explain how you mounted the monitor?  Looking at the picture of the monitor I do not see anything other then a screen and the back end.  What is there to actually secure to?

The monitor is secured to what ever you want to secure it to via brackets that are around the glass/screen itself.
