Need help with deciding console controller
garnerb350:
Hey guys...Once again need help on a another issue. Last week I finished setting up my Mame, and now I'm off to setting up my other emulators.
I am currently working on N64...and I am kind of concerned of what route i should go with controller setup. My Mame cab is built from stratch, and i have an x-arcade tankstick for the MAIN controller.
Ive done my reading and the opinion that i get from everyone is that console emulators controls suck with arcade style joysticks and push-butttons.
The idea I was thinking of doing is that I have a 4-n-1 usb hub and i wanted everybody's opinion on this. Should I get a PC gamepad ( any suggestions) or should I get an actual N64 controller and the n64/PC adapter? ...
I was hoping that I could find some input on this subject, I'm new to dealing with this and I just want the sensible solution...
(Careful on the wallet)
I would like to have a 2 player setup, and eventually I am going to install other console emulators...
Any suggestions?

I used the Logitech wingman wireless after some resurch it is one of the few that hase 6 buttons on the right that you need for the N64 pluse it will work for just about every other console emu
they don't make em anymore but, you can usually get em on ebay for $10-15

I really like the logitech chill stream (the built in fan is pretty sweet), but it's corded.

I picked em up on clearance somewhere for about 10$ but it was a while back.
That wireless version looks slick. Are the batteries replaceable?

I personally use a Playstation controller for my games that require analog, but that is what I grew up with. Also I love Grid Wars for the PC, and you need 2x analog sticks to play.
If you still plan to go with the N64 controller, or perhaps you just enjoy the layout I would recommend getting a controller that has 2 analog sticks on it, just to be sure that any game that comes your way you can play with 1 controller. The Wingman above looks cool, and the chill stream looks like xbox 360. Either would be good.

Me I am used to playstation also... I was trying to figure out which direction to go....the emulators I have setup so far is:
MAME
Daphne
Atari
NES
SNES
Sega Gen
trying to set up N64
Eventually try to get Dreamcast, PS1
Mame-Sega Gen...I figured the X-arcade could handle that...
With N64 and the rest...thats my dilemma...
If using a gamepad...how does the dual analog work compared to the analog on the n64 controller? Plus I am trying to remember the # of buttons for the blasted thing...
correct me if I am wrong ....n64 = 9 buttons ( L, R, 4 c buttons, A, B, & z trigger?)
I figured I would go with a corded gamepad...( dont have to worry about battieries) Plus I remember I had problems witha cordless madcat for my PS2 years ago...
2: I also want to go the cheap road...
