X-Men Origins: Wolverine--SPOILERS!
Flip_Willie:
So I just watched it in theaters today. I thought it was pretty good.
One thing bugged me though. Is it just me, or were some of the special effects bad? For example, some of the close-up shots of Wolverine's metallic claws just looked bad to me. Maybe I am just being picky though.

shmokes:
It's one that gets worse over time. The more I think about it the more mediocre I think it was. Like, when they go into that black guy's building killing everybody along the way only to get to him and he says, "Take the diamonds, they're yours," and Striker grabs the Adamantium meteorite and says, "I don't want your diamonds, I want this." And black guy gets this incredulous look on his face and says, "That? That is nothing. A souvenir." Striker then asks him where he found it and he doesn't hesitate. He doesn't care. He doesn't give a ---fudgesicle--- about this rock. Why would he?
So that's the rub. Like . . . why didn't Striker just pick up the phone and give the guy a call? "Hey, black guy. That rock you have on your desk. I want it. I'll give you $10k for it." And of course he'd be prepared to go much much higher, but wouldn't want to tip the guy off as to how valuable it is. And, of course, if the guy was a --cream-filled twinkie-- then Striker could go in killing. But WTF? It makes no sense. Now black guy doesn't have a single employee and he's just left thinking, "What the ---fudgesicle---, guy? I would have given you the ---smurfing--- paperweight."
Flake:
Well to be fair, maybe he did call him and he refused to give it up. Stryker had to have obtained knowledge of the meteor's whereabouts somehow. Besides maybe in his mind he's doing humanity a favor by wiping out another drug dealer or whatever he was.........
The movie was good I thought, well worth watching. Was it great? Probably not, but worth the price of admission.....
shmokes:
No . . . Stryker never called him. That much is clear. When Stryker said he wanted the rock it was absolutely clear that it had never occurred to black guy that anybody would want the rock. He was like, "That? That is nothing. A souvenir." He doesn't know it's valuable (and probably it is in fact not valuable except to a few people). And this is a guy who sells rocks for a living. Even if he knew the rock was valuable (which he clearly didn't) he's not going to hoard it anymore than he's going to hoard his diamonds. He's a businessman.
edit: Oh yeah, and black guy also has a small army of employees with automatic weapons and he knows the source of the Adamantium, yet he hasn't tried to obtain any more. Definitely Stryker didn't call first. What a --cream-filled twinkie--. ;D
Flake:
Well he's a business man but clearly not a legitimate one. I dont know too many legitimate business men with small armies and tanks. So again, maybe his justification was to rid the world of this criminal. I think Stryker in his own mind has "humanity's" best interest at heart.....however misguided. Also, why pay a criminal $10,000 for something when you can just kill him and take it. Also, if he would have offered cash for the rock the criminal would have realized it was worth something and would have probably investigated the matter for himself.
Besides, the scene allows the team to showcase their talents while simultaneously provides the origin of the adamantium. There is really nothing wrong with this scene. It could have been enhanced possibly by exploring how Stryker knew he had the rock in the first place, but even then I'm not sure that adds much value.
