I haven't seen it, but if you're an SF reader, then it's really old hat. Read the original Bicentennial Man, even. Very similar.

I don't watch much of that kind of drama, just because I have no need for it, but what immediately comes to mind in a topic like this is Terms of Endearment. Saw it at thirteen or so and it still tops in my memory.

When my wife and I first saw it in the theatre, not a word was said the entire half hour walk home.

I've since recommended the movie to many of my friends who were thinking about having kids.  Its the reminder that, "all that kids really want is just to be loved by their parents."

Parts of the film were good but the tacked on happy(ish) ending slightly spoiled it for me. It would have been a much better movie if it had been directed by Stanley Kubrick as was originally intended.

Probably one that many have not even heard of...  but its very powerful.
 
 Those poor woman went through so much.  Makes me cry like a baby.  Highly
recommended.
